Hi All,

This is today's most random and obscure question :D:cool:

I've acquired a FBD000050PMA dash-mounted cup-holder for a pre-facelift Freelander 1. It replaces the rubber mat between the instrument binnacle and the passenger airbag and is secured to the dashboard by two plastic (?) square expanding grommets that fit into pre-existing 12mm square holes on the top of the dashboard.

I believe (but do not know for sure) they are likely to look something like this, but bigger: Screw Grommets Expanding Nuts Lock Moulding Clips Fits into 10mm Square Hole. As far as I can make out, the Rover Group / Land Rover name for that kind of clip regardless of size / application was normally "locknut" or "trim locknut".

Does anyone have a part number (or good alternative) for these locknuts? They would have come as a part of the cup-holder kit originally, but I'd be surprised if they were unique to that slightly obscure accessory.

I have:
- Contacted Rimmer Bros who couldn't see a separate part number for them.
- Checked the JLR Classic Parts website (their diagrams are so "high-level" they don't even show these fixings).
- Bought some MG Rover square locknuts designed for 10mm square holes (definitely too small).
- Bought some plastic Ford "locknuts" for 12mm holes (they only swell slightly when the screws are tightened).

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks,
Malcolm

Double sided tape.

Although, I'd recommend you stick with the rubber mat. I did what you did and replaced the mat with drinks holder, but hardly used the holder and missed the mat for "putting stuff on" - so went back to the mat.

I suspect you will prove to be right (on both points) @GrumpyGel :eek::D

I also discovered the vehicleclips.co.uk website last night and managed to find two plastic fastenings in their "Screw Grommets & Locknuts" section that claim to be for 11mm holes . I've purchased the smallest available quantities (a pack of ten of each) for about £9 posted, all in.

I'll report back here when received and fitting attempted

Well - those locknuts arrived quickly (literally overnight) from vehicleclips.co.uk. Based on this one purchase, they can be recommended!

Both initially felt they were probably a fraction loose for the 12mm square holes in the dashboard (they are intended for 11mm square holes), but these ones nipped up nicely with a couple of suitably sized self-tapping screws from my "collection":

So I didn't even both trying the other ones!

They may be intended for a Fiat, but they work absolutely fine in a Land Rover

Don't forget to include a picture of your new option cup holders. ;)
