Quick questions regarding the rear view mirror, it is an electronic one which you have to press a button to activate ( green light illuminates), the question is when NOT in activated mode- what colour should the mirror be? I have a light green "coating with a slighty darker green what looks like a oval in the centre of the mirror... is this normal?
anyone else have this?

it sounds like the mirror is knackered, theres an oily substance in side that as you know dims it, its an elecrtomatic material (i think it tungsten oxide) and its next stage is prob to leak out of the mirror and appear to "melt" the dash where it lands/drips.
there £160 from main stealer, i got one for £45 from breakers, i was very lucky..................
i leave mine on all the time! (green light lit) and when its not on its just a clear mirror, no colours or shapes!

how do you remove the mirror seems very hard to remove- i tried pulling down in the angle as the screen but it wont budge! It does have a tiny amount of "waggle" side to side. Can anyone give me some tips?

Reading back through your threads you have a 98 vehicle?? In which case these are the removal instructions from RAVE...

INTERIOR MIRROR
Service repair no - 76.10.51
Remove
1. Remove cover.
2. If fitted, disconnect multiplug.
3. Remove mirror from windscreen location by
pulling sharply downwards.
Refit
4. Reverse removal procedure.

Thats all it says, I guess you might need to give it a bit of force if the manual says to pull it sharply downwards.

I had a new windscreen fitted to my 2001 dhse just after i got the car (stone chips) and the fixing for the mirror come with the new screen on it and the mirror twist's on the bracket on mine hope this helps

Used to have a 1995 P38. There were two strong metal clips which held the mirror assembly in place. After being removed and replaced a couple of times, these clips lost their grip, resulting in the mirror hanging by its wiring loom now and again. I eventually bent the clips in a bit to cure the problem.

Good luck!

Sam

Managed to pull it off- it takes a little waggling side to side but will come loose. Thanks for all your replies!
