Looking like I may need a new rad for the Defender (200 TDi) - want to put a proper alloy one in as opposed to the crappy plastic OEM spec so what's the one to go for chaps if I do have to ?

Fankoo in advance :)

Having just looked into this (and bought a plastic/metal one, see my post on oil cooler leak :() I think the Bearmach all metal one is ok and if you're feeling flush, Allisport :)
Or I'll sell you my old one that's lying in the garage and you can get it recored :D

Oe spec is all copper/brass this is the one to go for and will give you zero issues.
Britpart/bearmach etc are alloy body with plastic tanks these can and do have problems
All alloy is a waste of money

Ebay 110 quid search, Land Rover Defender 90 110 130 200tdi Radiator - Bearmach - BTP1823R

What ebay sellers do is rather than delist an item/s when they have run out of stock is to increase the price dramatically as it saves them time/hassle when they have stock again.
Im a bit amazed that I have to explain that to any LZer!

Anyway if the op searchs ebay for BTP1823R they will find loads of listings.

"want to put a proper alloy one in as opposed to the crappy plastic OEM spec"

As already stated, OE spec is copper / brass and it is the alloy ones with plastic end tanks that are aftermarket.
I bought a Bearmach replacement for my 300TDi, made of copper / brass the quality was on a par with the gen item and it was only about £20 more than the alloy / plastic offering.

I've got a fully aluminium 1 as I wanted it to match the fully aluminium uprated intercooler I have on mine works a treat no problems so far and keeps it really cool.

Copper is probably "nicer", but it is older technology where cooling is concerned and not as efficient.

Aluminium radiators dissipate heater better - albeit copper has better thermal conductivity - but due to the density of ali it will get rid of the heat easier than the copper.

The thing is with the hand built allloy ones is they are hand built, I used to work for a company that made alloy fuel tanks/side skirts/battery boxes/storage lockers/recovery trucks/stainless exhausts and whilst they were very nice I was always of the opinion original was better and this is from a serial modifier!
