I would go out and have a look but im at me mom n dads but there was definately fluid on the floor, i hope im lucky BL i really hope so, would make a blummin change!
Any tips or instructions for bleeding after the cylinder change?

Hi Mike, yes I have !!! I say it like that as mine was a bit of a bûgger to do !!

You need an assistant and 500ml of brake and clutch fluid.

Once the new slave is fully installed, working from the top in the engine bay, you can operate the bleed nipple. Put a length of clear pipe on it and the other end into a jar of old fluid.

Fill up the master cylinder with new fluid then get your assistant to press to press and hold down the clutch pedal. The bleed nipple is not yet open as you are wanting to compress the air inside.

Now open the the bleed nipple letting the air out and close again. Your assistant now releases and then re-presses and holds the pedal, you open and close the nipple and so on and so on until all you see is new fluid.

Obviously you need to keep an eye on the level of liquid in the master cylinder.

Once all the air is out and you are seeing just new fluid, close off the nipple for the last time, put it's cover on and you're done.

I hope it is just your slave-When I had fluid on the floor it was because the slave had over-travelled the bore and was out the end ****ed because the fork was punched thru.Mine was punched thru on the ball pivot in the bell housing. If you do have to renew this make sure you get a fork thats got the extra strap welded on it.Good luck

ok, changed the slave today, bled it as described by biglad, there is just a slurping noise as thought it is trying to happen with my brother pressed on the clutch pedal.
Completely removed the bleed nipple and no flow of liquid at all with the master cylinder full ???

So I then removed the first union connection off the master cylinder/reservoir and no fluid is flowing at all.....?

Tried to pump the clutch pedal and only a drop of fluid is pumped......

Is it time to replace the master?

Sounds like it to me, good luck. It's an easy job apart from getting the pin out of the foot pedal :eek::eek:

master cylinder changed! ran through the bleeding routine again and now the clutch pedal has gone rock hard, it moves around 1/5th of the way down then goes rock hard...

Any suggestions?

Mine did this when fork was gone-how far out of the bell housing was the slave rod when you changed slave cylinder? With my fork gone,it was a matter of mm-yet with the new fork it was an inch plus. i.e. the slave had something to push on

yes it was a matter of mm out of the housing.

Strange thing I have just found, the pedal operates with the bleed nipple open on the slave and goes rock hard with the nipple locked up....

Seems like I will be undertaking the replacement fork job over the weekend! B*AST$RD!!!!

Thats because the fork is no longer pivoting on the ball in the bell housing,(punched thru)and has moved back against the bell housing body and has no where to go-with the bleed nipple undone the master can move-this is normal.
I would renew all clutch components when its apart-but definitely fit a strenghthened fork.
I have just had to do this and the extra bonus for me was finding the front diff input bearing is also shot, when I dropped the front prop-but this can wait till better weather, just keep feeding oil in for mo.lol

ahhh i see, thanks bio, any tips/hints/photos to help me on my way?

Any other parts to add to biglads list?

i will definately be replacing clutch whilst its apart.

If you follow the guide you won't go far wrong,I found an old car scissor jack and a block of wood helped to keep engine at right angle(under front of engine),when removing/replacing the transmission.Rather than cuddle the transmission which is heavy,I used 2 trolley jacks-if you can scrounge some M8 studding you will find this helps on realignment.Think the worst bit is the upper bell housing nuts-they were a bastard to get at ,borrow as many 1/2"extension bars as you can, think i had about 3 ft in total. But hey when it is done, you've got ur landy back-good luck

Cheers for the advice, I hav managed to borrow another trolley jack gonna scrounge all the lads at work extension bars and I hav convinced a friend of the family (ex mechanic) to help me for 50 quid beer tokens :) all being well wil be havin a bash tomorro or Saturday, thanks for all comments

Half way there! Centre console stripped, Props off, It took me around 2 hours to split the gearbox from the bellhousing! what a B*ast$rd! The levels of the engine and the gearbox/transferbox is critical, I also found levering off the cross member onto the transfer box with a couple of small bars on each side really help to pull the gearbox off the pins and allow you to move it away from the bell housing.
definately the fork issue, the new fork is in place and due to bad light had to leave it at that for now.

Just gotta drop the new clutch in and put it all back together...

Any tips for the rebuild I should be careful of?

Thanks

Mike

Mike did you grease up the pivot ball ,to give your new fork a easy life-are the slipper feet located ok-is the slave rod clip in the top of the fork ok

Yes Pivot ball is greased and all went together ok considering it was pitch black dark, I will double check it over the weekend.
Probably wont be able to finish it all off until tuesday due to working!

Well after spending 4 hours yesterday afternoon fitting new clutch and fork, rebuilt everything, bled slave cylinder, starts her up.... gently pressed down on the clutch pedal and about half way down the stroke I started to get a grinding....!

Stopped everything and got out the drawings and re-traced everything I had done....

What a complete goon! I am 95% sure I have put the release bearing on the wrong side of the fork!!!!!!!! dishearted and dissapointed are not enough words to describe how I feel!

so saturday its all coming apart again to do it properly! Gutted
