Police are not willing to act on dodgy eBay motors.

They are willing to act on dodgy motoros for sale generally though

SO...

If we show some interest on a dodgy motor on eBay, get the persons address, if they are willing to complete outside eBay etc. then contact the police with those details they are more likely to take action.

I have no problems ringing the police about dodgy motors... So if people find dodgy motors and either want to PM or post on here details I'll call them in and see if we can get any action.

If more people want to call them in all the better - if the police get more complaints about the same motor they are more likely to act.

Same with tax exempt 90's - lots of people reporting them to VOSA with address of where the vehilce is (Again, vain interest in it on eBay to get the details)



Or we can all just sit at our computers and moan on here that its not right and someone should do something :rolleyes:

sounds like a plan
reported a transit flat bed saturday, driving slowley up and down the road i see it 3 times as he came along 3rd time i made it obvise i was writing his reg down. not seen it since, cops made a note but they didn't seem to intrested
we have had a couple of motors slowley past where I am one stopped and asked my neighbour who was in her front garden if she knew if i wanted to sell my series 2a, so I've taken the back wheels of it for now till i can sort someting out.

might been genuine but you never know.

Reporting an untaxed vehicle
What you need to report

•any feature landmark, eg opposite telephone box

Report the vehicle

Use the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLA) online service.
Report an untaxed vehicle online
By post
Send a letter to the enforcement section at your nearest DVLA local office.
Find your nearest DVLA enforcement centre
 
Hadn't thought of calling crime stoppers, will give them ago too. Though doubtful they will do anything.

I still think the more people reporting the better. They are much less liekly to ignore 10 or 20 calls than just one. And if it develops into a crime have 10 or 20 people to explain why they ignored their advice.
 
How come the police won't take action on eBay motors? What's so special about eBay?

So, do I understand this right....eBay say contact the police; and police say they'll investigate stolen motors EXCEPT when they're on eBay?

Basically, if your in the stolen motor industry make sure you use eBay - its a bit like a tax heaven... but better (or worse)
 
Yeah...as suspected. Can you get the officer's name who you spoke with and escalate it, or publicise it?

Spoke to a friendly police officer today regarding the ebay malarky. She says the issue is the fact that until someone actually purchases the vehicle, it is really only a minor crime being committed, ie sale of goods act (to do with not giving the correct discription of the item). Whether the car underneath is stolen or not is a moot point and one which could take some investigating (time, money, resources). SHe did say that they do have a team somewhere who look at ebay all of the time, she didn't know how we could contact them but there is one out there somewhere doing just what you are doing, obviously not as well!

I think the problem is that when you phone up and say to someone at a local police station, "I think this vehicle on e-bay is a ringer because ..... " and rattle off all the information which makes sense to you because you all have excellent knowledge on the difference between series and defenders etc the person at the other end, just doesnt understand you. Its a very specialist subject, plus you will probably be talking to an officer who is very young in service. The stolen vehicle unit would be the place to call as they have good knowledge and are interested in cars.

I am sure if someone spotted their stolen vehicle on e-bay and phoned up there would be a different response, because they would actually be saying, this vehicle is mine, not I THINK this vehicle is stolen. If this is not the case then there is something very wrong and you need to be talking to a supervisor.

That's why I'm thinking of using LandyWatch to contact the police. They may listen to a group of land rover experts.

Most people in the real world know jack sh!t about anything and that includes the cops, they like it simple, nick someone for speeding and you have a crime detected, a crime solved and a criminal punished. Nick someone for trying to sell a ringed Landrover that you no nothing about and you have lot of work to prove what ?????????????????? sod it stick to nicking speeders its a lot easier.
