My W reg D2 td5 has very recently decided to discharge the battery leaving me unable to start it. A 20 min charge of the battery was all it needed in order to start the vehicle. I have had everything checked and all appear to be working well with no discharges evident. The battery is only 1 year old and reads as in perfect condition, and the car is always very well maintained. I have done a full check and nothing has been left 'on' that uses power.

The discharge goes from fully charged to 'flat' in 2 days! My mechanic kept it over the weekend ( Fri to Tues) and, guess what ..... it didn't go flat!! Sods law. The only difference in its 'stabling' is that he kept it in the shade and with me it was in full sun - do you think this could cause the discharge??

My difficulty is that I am on holiday in France for 3 weeks from the beginning of next month and I do not want to find myself stuck, Hence I am looking to invest in a portable Power Pack with enough 'grunt' to start my car if it becomes necessary. I know nothing about these ( or anything else mechanical if it comes to that) but have been trying to research the facts. The Clarke 4000 seems to be powerful enough but it is 17 krm in weight!! Hardly what I would call portable with my holiday luggage.

Has anyone got any recommendations, please?????? At this moment, cost is not the priority but function is! I do have European breakdown cover but just cannot face the thought of having to use it time after time for such a thing as a flat battery whilst on a holiday, if I can avoid it.

Im not up to speed with power packs, the ones Ive used are comercial and I know heavy is good, thats were the power is,

even if your battery is good being coverd is a good idear, get a good set of jump leads aswell to bump a jump off some one,

there will be vids on you tube if your not sure adout jumping or for peice of mind

Yes, I've got a set of heavy duty jump leads. bought them years ago when I had a NEW Range Rover. I only used them once and then got rid of said vehicle!

Snapon 1700 have had one for 3 years and used every day I work as I'm a breakdown tech, still start a 3.0L diesel after 3 yrs, not cheap but you'll never mead another one, can charge in your motor with suitable plug and will not drain back if left plugged in as diode'd so always charged, hope this helps, Tim

That sounds good but, silly question, where do you buy them from??? I don't seem to be able to find a stockist.

Snapon dealers, they sell from van/lorry and there will be one supplying your local garages, should be able to find number of your local one and arrange to meet or he might come to your house, you could always ask your local garage for their number

Remember Snap-on a lot of there stuff is just rebranded from other manufacturers, you are paying a premium for the name

you wont be disappointed with it.;):D:D

i re charge mine using my battery charger connected to the croc leads on the batt pack.much quicker.;)

Now here is a really dumb question for you!!! In the instructions of the power pack is says that I must 'connect the positive to the pos. on the vehicle battery and the neg to the vehicle chassis', now how to i do that when the pos. is up in the engine bay and the chassis is down underneath!!!!! I am sure there must be an easy answer to this from those in the know but to me ?????????????????
I am hoping I don't need to use it as I have replaced the battery but - just in case, as I don't want to look a complete idiot when on holiday in France.
