P38 Recovery Points?

While you are definitely right the OEM p38 hitch is one of the least intrusive in that manner. The shape and design of it mean its really only going to hang you up on rock or very hard ground. A Defender or RRC hitch is a complete plow in comparison to the P38! I've never done it but I think you can even angle it up out of the way by removing a single bolt or completly remove it by taking off two bolts still leaving a strong point for recovery.

Here's that page from the accessory catalogue.

The part no. of the quick release type is STC8939

Oooh! It's got the famous winch as well! That'd be handy...

I did try snapping a picture this morning when I got to work, but my phone won't go to a wide enough angle so the shot I got wasn't very useful.

There's no issue with clearance for the pipework behind the valance - the plumbing takes an immediate right angle away from the towbar area. I'm really just concerned about being able to get the lpg nozzle onto the filler with a towbar in place.

Appreciate what you're saying about towbars and overhang Steve, but I'm a bit limited in options here and I could do with a towbar anyway. My P38 is my daily drive so I'm never going to be able to go too extreme in my offroading. Hmm. Everything's a compromise.

When filling up, I have noticed several other LPG cars (one of them a P38) have their fillers built into the lower part of the bumper near the corner, I know it means cutting into the bumper, but it will be a secure fixing, out of sight and out of the way of the tow bar.

Here you go Kooky, photos of my hitch as promised, just sorry it took so long as I was a bit preoccupied with the damn EAS. As you can see there's loads of room around the back of it that should mean this type is ok with your LPG filler.

 I cant see fook all :p:p:p

That's weird, they're coming up fine at this end. Can anyone else reading this confirm whether they can or can't see em?:confused2:

The EAS is back on line at last, but not entirely sure why, as even with new pump it wouldn't rise, then I removed and re-installed it again and it worked. I guess something didn't go together properly, but don't know what because I couldn't find any leaks at the valve block end.

I drove it 10 miles this morning and the pump seemed to be running rather a lot. I've left it pumped up to high now, and measured each wheel arch height and we'll see what they read in the morning. I suspect that the front drivers bag might have leak, hence the overworked pump in the first place.

Hmm. Very strange. Defnitly can't see em. Are they just normal attachments/thumbnails?

My EAS is working better in the cold too - I think the dodgy o ring in the valve block is sealing better so the rear n/s corner has stopped dropping. Still, I'm sure it's only a temporary reprieve so still looking for another one so I can do what you're doing with yours.

I'll shift em into my photo album on ere, then if you go to my profile you should be able to see em.

Seen em now in your album. Cheers for that.

I'm still not convinced there's enough clearance for the lpg nozzle. I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and get one and if I need to move the filler then it's not the end of the world. It might actually be easier with a bar like yours as I could probably mount it on the bar.

Hmmm, decisions decisions!

Actually, do you have a picture of it end on (ie direct rear view)? That would show me if the filler is obscured by the bar...
