p38 idle speed

1998 petrol efi

engine races to 2000 rpm in park or neutral-----used to be sometimes now all the time
any suggestions please

Induction air leak. Look for split damaged pipes. Damaged pipes around idle air control valve. Idle valve sticking.

never really got to the bottom of this problem---i did replace a couple hoses on the rocker box and the plenum chamber but didnt do much---they were bunged up though badly---since then i had to change the battery and now keeping an eye on things

I never got to the bottom of the problem---my land rover people put the computer on it but it didnt show up anything.I have changed the battery and the situation has considerably improved but very very occasionally the rpm does try and get away but seems to right itself, i think once it misbehaved,so its still under surveillance !
