Hi chaps and chapettes,

Confused.com or what??

Seen a 1999 P38 Diesel for sale, been to have a look, nice car....confused over a couple of things though and y'all in t'internet land might just be able to help....

The badges at the back indicate 2.5 DSE.

Insurance Site (when I got a quote) indicated a DT

V5C indicates DSE

I will try my best to detail the vehicle:
  • Custom, one of a kind paint colour (odd minty, lime, gold Green)
  • Lightstone Leather Interior
  • Manual Seats
  • Heated Seats
  • No Steering wheel mounted Stereo Controls
  • Cruise Control
  • 6 Disc Changer under Passanger seat (Original Land Rover Item btw)
  • Full Closure Pack
  • Original Land Rover Tinted Windows
  • Electric Windows and S/Roof
  • Electric operated and heated Wing Mirrors
  • Standard Rear View Mirror (Not auto-chromatic)
  • New Style Stereo (the one with the number buttons in a row at the bottom)
I think that is it from memory....

It confused me as it has bits found on the DSE and not the DT but not all the DSE bits....

Any clues from those more enlightened than myself?
 
They are basically a kit of parts when you buy from new as are BMW's, you have the leather seats so I would guess it's DSE, my spec on a 2000 model is not much different and it's listed as a DHSE.
 
its a DSE, it had a level "H" BECM, the DT has a manual blower motors (meaning you have to slide the knobs to change where the air is coming from) along with other things.

Thats not true, I have a 1995 DT with a Low-line Becm and Hevac Air-Con and Cloth Seats, but I have seen DT's with full leather.


Also I understand Land Rover stop manufacturing Low-line Becm's for late vehicles, moving over to High-line Becm only.


The trouble is the optional the extras that are ordered when first purchased, let alone any retro fitted extras......:eek:

From my experience, the most sure way for telling a DT from a DSE is by the presence of wipers on the from headlights and the presence of the sunroof. If it is missing either of these, it's a DT. In these days most DTs will have parts coming from DSEs, the most common upgrade being the leather seats. But noone will bother installing headlight wipers :)

It has the Sunroof and the Headlamp Washers and Wipers....So I assume it is the DSE, had another Quote on Insurance and they have it listed as a DT Automatic...

Ho-Hum, I think I concur with the general consensus of opinion that it is a DSE too.

Give customer services at Land Rover a call and explain, they will find out for you there and then and even email the spec of the car when ordered.
They done it for me earlier this year when I was looking at a vogue that looked like an autobiography.
Just have vin number and reg to hand when you call them.

I have a DT with a factory fitted sunroof and a DHSE with no sunroof. As I said, you could add or delete features more or less at will.
 
Mine is a DT, has factory sunroof and cloth seats, but who cares if the body work, electrics and mechanics are good thats what counts. Anybody that discounts the cloth seats are missing out on the most comftorable car seats I have ever sat in and that is not overdoing it, they are brilliantly supportive and comftorable especially on my dodgy back. (The cloth is still in great nick even with 160K miles)

Hi all,

After wondering myself about the different trim levels I felt compelled to reply to this post.

I currently own a 1995 M reg P38 2.5 DT. It has the following spec:

Full leather trim
Electric sunroof
Electric seats/memory seats
Manual ventilation controls/no A/C
No headlamp wipers
Fog lights
No cruise control

It seems to me that Land Rover must have built some P38's with either different trims for the same model or owners had optional extras fitted when buying new.

Although I'm no expert......

Seems odd doesn't it??

Big help for me in determining trim levels and special editions etc was a book called 'Range Rover: The Second Generation by James Taylor'

Very interesting read (but I'm a geek) and was only a tenner or so from the shop named after a South American River!!!

Saint when I had me defender the insurance tried to say it was comming up as a van, I told them I didn't know many vans with rear windows and seats in the back don't trust insurance data bases.

Untill your dog/ kids puke on it ! Easier to clean leather.
