Ok the final word on what engine oil for TD5?

The fuel filter on a TD5 should be under the rear offside wheel arch and NOT under the bonnet. I cant see anything in those pictures that looks like a TD5. Also I think I can see an injector pump and the TD5 does not have one of them as its a common rail diesel.

This is very freaky. The Landrover is a 2001 model. TD5s came along from 1998 onwards.

It even been shows as a 2001 TD5 on Land Rovers computer when I went in to get the paints ordered.

WTF is a 300 engine in there???!

I wonder if they had problems with the TD5 somewhere down the line and ordered in the 300 TDI for reliability??

I'll be making some phone calls about this to the seller of the vehicle.
I need to be put straight on the history.

Otherwise I could end up buying parts that don't fit and so on...

But to wrap this up, the 300 TDI has no extra oil filter and is typically easier to work on...
Good!

I think ROW defenders can have the 300tdi in them still, but any EU defenders need to have eu3 compliant engines fitted. I have no idea when the cut-off for non eu3 supply was though.

I have no idea what the suspension set-up differences are, if any.

ROW??

Republic of Wales??!! LOL

I believe that the Army still specified 300tdi engines until recently, it could have been a "cancelled order". These "cancelled orders" often come up at my local Land Rover independant. Last year they had about 6 brand new 110CSW with tdi engines.

Could be this sort of thing.

The guy could of ordered them in for his drilling company and didn't want a TD5.
Hmm, It's strange because I'd been really hunting for a 300 TDI engine lannie that was 110 and a van spec.
I'd given up and settled on this one and it turns out it's got a 300 engine anyway!
Such are the lucky quirks of fate :D

Got some oil today from the motorspares place.

It's 15W40 semi synthetic for diesel engines.

Checked the 'all-knowing' Haynes Manual and it proclaims:

Multigrade 5W40 or 5W50 !!!!

I haven't dunked the oil in yet so wondering if this will be ok?

The TD5 should have 5W-30 as primary recommendation, every other viscosity is just an alternative

Shell Helix F 5w-30
Mobil Super FE 5w-30
Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 A1
Comma XTECH 5w-30

i would take the 15w-40 semi synth back to the motor factors as they've given you the wrong oil. 15w-40 semi synthetic sounds like Comma oil to me, exchange it for the XTECH if you can, it may even be cheaper.

hope this helps mate
