Noisey injectors?? 300TDi

I'd also point out that the injectors are a service item, and they should be changed or refurbed every 100K, according to LR and Bosch....

IME, they will last a lot longer than this, but for the £150 cost of refurbed ones - it ain't worth it. OMO. YMMV. :)
Absolutely +1 My No4 injector developed a fault and melted the piston. Full engine rebuild needed. :( Wish I'd known better at the time. Seems expensive getting them serviced, but it's nothing compared to an engine rebuild :eek:
 
You can crack the injectors one at a time whilst its running to see what if any difference each injector makes, only needs a half turn and it will be leaking, all normal safety rules apply! the one that makes the least difference is the weakest cylinder.

How would I go about loosening an injector which part would I loosen? The hex part right at the top that’s attachedto metal pipe?
 
Crack the nut on the end of the pipe which is on the top of the injector, and you should hear the same difference in engine tone after each one, until you find the 'under-performing' injector, in which case there might be very little difference.

Just cracked the injectors a little bit and number 2 didn’t really do much if anything made it sound a bit more tamed but number 3 was bellowing our steam when I cracked the bolt??? Anyone know a reason for this?
 
Do you think you cracked the other three off enough? Be very careful, the pressure is very high.
Yeah all around a quarter turn. Will give it another go tomorrow in some day light just to make sure. Once again that’s for your replies :D
 
I had similair on one of my 200s it would randonly drop onto 3 cylinders then 10 miles later clear up like nothing had happened, in the end I fitted another injection pump and its been fine since.

Hmmm do you know anyway to test an injection pump?

I reckon you have a cylinder there not doing its fair share of the work.
It almost sounds to me like its backfiring through the air filter?
Have you removed the filter and stuck your ear for a listen?
Have you removed the rocker cover and checked the valve clearances? Im not sure if the 300s run the vlave lash caps same as the 200? and if they do the 200 are always spitting them out and the valve clearance goes from 0.20mm to 3.0mm.
