Hi everyone, just purchased my first Freelander and couldn't be happier. It's a 2002, 52 plate TD4 Commercial. Its already had the Pierburgh maf and synergy 2 module fitted and goes pretty well in my opinion. Im going to do a couple of other mods that i've read about on the forum too. I have a question though and don't know if any of you can help me. The Freelander came with a Nokia CK-7W car kit fitted but i'm having a problem with it. My phone syncs with it fine but the kit has power to it when the ignition is either on or off and i only get sound through the speakers when the ignition is off???? Really handy eh, kind of defeats the object a bit. Anyway, really enjoying the forum and learning loads from it and hope someone can shed some light as to whats wrong with the car kit. Cheers.

had similar problems with mine, same car kit in a td4 commercial, oddly enough. Had the kit supposedly fitted professionally by my employer, what a pile of poo the install was. The root of the problem was the adaptor which routed the sound through the car speakers. In the end, I ripped the lot out, and just re-installed the nokia kit alone without the adaptor to connect via the car stereo.

It's only 4 wires to connect, and I used the external microphone, and the external speaker, both of which plug straight into the control unit itself.

Took all the feeds off the back of the radio, you need permanent 12v, ignition 12v, 0v/earth, and radio mute.

Radio mute is a bit odd. The Philips C42 supports the feature, but the wiring loom in the freelander doesn't. I just cut a spare pin from the old redundant adaptor kit, and inserted it into the correct space in the header plug, and it works perfectly.

Since the day of the re-install, it has worked faultlessly every time, always reconnecting and disconnecting seamlessly. No feedback, no crap voice quality, just as it should be.

good luck.

Thanks Optimus Prime. I know what i'll be doing this weekend then. I think i'll take your advice and take the lot out and start again. I've managed to get the module out from where it was installed. Will i have to remove the entire center console as i do not have the tool to remove the (kenwood) stereo. Thanks for your help.

I have a Bury CC9060 installed in freelander with the autoleads adaptor, works fine.

Its the same adaptor as a Ford Fusion I think?

hi, ive just got a 2002 td4 commercial myself and found a nokia phone kit inside, i took the whole lot out, the hardest thing was i found a central box fitted under the passenger dashboard, with wires going everywhere.

As it kept muting the radio and drove me nuts so after taking the whole loom and box out have had no further problems.

Took out the standard lr radio cassette player and put in a pioneer cd player.

would be nice to know fellow td4 commercial owners to compare notes and learn from each other

all the best

Sorted. The problem turned out to be someone had fitted an autoleads telemute module when the freelander was fitted with its original stereo. Then at some point that was replaced with the Kenwood unit fitted at present and was not wired up accordingly. Ended up stripping all back to original, connected the 4 wires from the car kit and voila.

in my honest opinion, all the car kits which use the car stereo speakers are a bit poop, and can't compare to a separate speaker hidden in the foot well.

it's amazing how these telemute units have so many cables for something so simple !
