I need to get new discs and Pads for my motor, has anyone any views on this? i.e. Get standard discs and pads, standard discs Mintex pads, grooved/dimpled/cross drilled discs, greenstuff pads etc etc.
I use the car mainly on-road but also off road every now and then!
Also any good suppliers?

Morning Ed

I sourced mine out of paddocks and picked them up whilst in the area

was a real straight forward job to change all four the disks on the p38 come away with just two phili grub screws

what i did was clean then all down with a presseure washer calipers etc

then got some graphite grey HEATPROOF paint (heatproof til 650f )then spreyed the calipers and disks back & front then caried on with the disk & pad replacement

put it all back together and now the disks & calipers are a graphite grey and dont show a bit of rust and look very clean indeed almost 6 months later still look good

Dont forget lots of WD 40 for the removal & a little Copper greese for the re-assembly

Hi,
I need to replace both front and rear as there is a fairly big wear step on all of them! Also getting quite a lot of squealing thought it might be worth uprating the discs either just with different pads or usinf a combination of pads and discs but have no experience of the ones that are currently on the market so was looking for some pointers. If you think the standard ones are as good I guess that would be the cheapest option.

Morning Again Ed

When i bought mine the brakes were really OK plenty of pad on all wheels the disks were a bit scored so i thought change the lot and that way i would give me a indication of how much they do wear with me as the driver. Ok with a auto box you are going to use the brakes more anyways.

All in all i think it cst somethink like 80quid for the four wheels (mintex pads) and a morning´s work & sooner or later it would have been something that would be needing changing on inspection.

with regarding upgrading the brake - of course you can go for the drilled disk etc - but personally i have found the std set-up good enough for normal use (PS mine puts out close to 200bhp due to re-chiping & intercooling)

Recently a friend took her merc CLK for new brakes
front disks & pads were changed
rear - only the pads - that came in at about 450 quid
