Scotland,
They can keep it!
Give me my 17yr old L322 any day.
I've hired a car to head to London. Was supposed to be a Range Rover , instead they let me down and supplied this thing, a Discovery Sport HSE
The plus points:
It's nippy. Pulls away like one of those sporty little Corsas or such like.
Fuel tank doesn't cost much to fill. Only £52 from 71 mile range left.
It's all 'wired for sound'.
The flip side:
The leg room is also like one of those sporty little Corsas. Less than 45 miles into a 500 miles drive my knee, quad, and hamstring were already sore. Even the footrest is too close. So I'm resting my foot where the clutch pedal would usually be.
The cheap to fill fuel tank is because it is so small. Range of 332 miles when full.
Wired for sound and everything else is controlled from reading the centre dash. Which means taking eyes off the road if wanting to put heated seat ( note not seats) Instead of good old reach out and press a button , a la L322. No wonder no-one has their attention on the road any more. They have also missed a trick, with no heads up display similar to Volvo.
There is no height to the thing. I am sitting down amongst normal cars. Which it basically is.

So in summary
Don't buy one if you are over 5'6. Even if you have short legs, your arms will be uncomfortable. It's not comfortable to drive. You will pay a lot more for fuel if on a long journey, as you will have to refill at a m/way station. It has no road presence. It reacts like a sporty little car and sitting in it, I felt as if in a standard , average marque, car. It could be any saloon car, a Ford, a Skoda, a Vauxhall or similar. It most certainly does not feel like what is supposed to be a high marque 4x4.

I have told them to sort it. So tomorrow a Range Rover should turn up outside the house.
Right now all I can say is " I miss my Golden Girl" :(

Certain car brands tend to have tiny pedals close together, no problem driving a P38 or Defender with big steel-toe-cap boots on makes no difference.
I wouldn't say the pedals are tiny, just average. The whole thing is average. I was driving with Cat boots on today, without issue. The issue was the legroom, not foot room..
I could"ve hired a 'standard' estate for a lot less money and had a very similar driving experience. Land Rover has lost all it stood for. It is no longer the best of the best in luxury 4 x 4 , nor is it the toughest of the tough for working 4x4s.
The fact that the Discovery Sport is in the same class as the ejoke, says all that needs to be said about it.

You’d trade/sell your P38 + Disco for a Toyota?

Not a Toyota.

Nissan Patrol Y60 4.2 Diesel.

There is one of these in my Village

He's owned it since new 278k

Looks and goes like new. has the bullbar too.

begged him to sell it to me, don't think he ever will..

And yes.

I would replace both LR's if i could get my hands on one of those.

Today they took the poxy Discovery Sport away. In it's place sits a BEAST of a machine, and what an impressive, beautiful beast it is. I can only think that it must be the vehicle incarnation of @Saint.V8 ;)
Want to know what they brought, that has me so happy

You sure

Oh ok

I does have a Toyota Land Cruiser , packed full of toys sitting outside. With the keys safely tucked in a pocket. Being female though I am never happy and as such, sad it has no sunroof. However, it is winter, it is raining in London, what need have I for a sunroof. :D

P.s I've only done city driving so far. I'll see if it drives as well as it looks on the way home. It's a nice mix of city, m/way, Scottish A road, and some back road/ rural driving to get home.

I joke of course ;)

The P38 is hard to beat regarding.

Ride
Cruisability
Offroad ability
power.
Seating position and comfort.
Looks.
Sound.

Basically everything you want!!

P38 is a nice car, and one of the comfiest 4x4's ever.

I find it's comfier than the L322.

Seats are also very mushy and comfortable.

I'd have a patrol but i don't think i'd really have it long. the P38 has a sense of occasion about it.

Jap 4x4's don't..
Souless.

Love me P38 ;)

All of that is true, but Jap stuff doesn't need constant attention
