I've decided to take the plunge and buy a new Defender 90, and am currently speccing it up. I wanted to tap the collective wisdom here about the options for a car that'll be used for countryside activities (shooting, horses etc), some light off-road and limited motorway driving. It'd not be the only car as we already have a Freelander 2.

I'm looking at an XS Station Wagon in either Indus Silver, Santorini Black or the new dark grey that's replaced Orkney Grey with:

- Boost alloys and Conti cross-contact tyres
- Standard tow bar and electrics
- Premium part leather seats with LR embossed headrest (the current brochure shows a picture of a Recaro front seat kit that looks great, but isn't on the price list. Not available in the UK?)
- Uprated audio system (with sub in the centre console etc)
- Rubber loadspace mat
- Side and wing top chequer plate kit (can't decide between paint matching or contrasting colour)

Would also appreciate any counsel in relation to discounts that others have been able to achieve from main dealers on an LR like this.

Get traction control fitted if it isn't already fitted to the XS. Also air con is good too. Also the option of a thicker blanket for yer pig.

Also look at getting it protected. Tratters rust well so treating it early in it's life will keep it going longer and avoid tin worm for longer. There's threads on ere with advice on what to do.

good advice about getting it waxoyled it needs to be around a long time to **** freelanders off
Should we tell him when it turns up brand new the bolts in the door and bonnet hinges will already have surface rust on them? :fencing:

Thanks for the comments, and the warnings!

My dealer has already offered to drill a couple of holes in the floor pan to help the water drain out when it rains. Free of charge as well...

Recaro seats are off the lists as, at £2.5k each, they may look lovely, but no...as is the chequer plate as the wings are strong enough to stand on as is.

Heated windscreen and air con come as standard on the XS, so no need to add.

Tracker added to the spec.

Just waiting on costs and delivery date...

When you get it, strip it down and waxoyl the chassis, bulkhead ,in the doors and around the engine bay.
Lubricate everything that moves and replace any mild steel bolts with stainless, replace all the mild steel screws with stainless bolts and be liberal with the copper slip.
Change the oil filtter. Ive heard of a few new 2.2tdi engines sucking the filter into the block and smashing the engine to pieces.

Get the fold up steps. Very user friendly-ie wife, mother in law, nan etc will appriciate it. Are you getting the alpine headunit? The usb is useful for charging ya phone if nothing else.
