Theres a guy selling a galv. chassis from a 92 county and i wondered if it could be fitted to my 88 110 fitted with a disco 200tdi. Wondered about engine mounts, gearbox crossmember or anything else.

88 and 92 have the same chassis, it changes at the 300tdi engine change.
What you have to watch for is changes by the owner who purchased it, ie rear tank, 300tdi mod etc.
Also is it an old chassis that has been galvanised or a new chassis.
 
He had it galvanized himself and wants E1500?
I'm sure you would have googled this, MIck, but the Richards web site lists £1650 for a 200Tdi 110 chassis. That's €1914
I'd be asking, How old is it? Has it been off roaded? Any damage eg front outriggers as they can take some stick
It seems a bit expensive for a second hand one for me. That's just me though, mate.

It might just be me, but it's hard to describe the excitement of a new, shiny galv chassis being lifted off a wagon on to the drive :rolleyes::oops:

How old was it when it was galvanised? I know the pickling process is meant to take the internal rust off, but I would sleep better knowing the steel was brand new before being dipped. Especially for that money.

I know what you mean. Ive called him to have a look at it and check for any damage/ thin metal. Its from a 92 and if my 95 is anything to go by then the metal would be very thin if not repaired. He has various gearboxs and old doors that i might be able to get a bulk deal on.
With exchange rate what it is plus roughly E100 shipping its only worth it if really solid

Didn't realise it was over here, Mick. So with shipping it would be €1600 and for another €300 you could have a brand new, worry free, shiny one. I know €300 is a lot of money, but €1600 is a lot more for something that may not be tip top. Just saying, mate, but you can see what I would do :)
Just a thought, but with all the work you have done so far. If you rebuild with current chassis, run it for a few years while building a chassis savings pot, then a straight chassis swap wouldn't be too traumatic in a few years time. You would have done it before! ;)

I think we are on crossed lines. The chassis is over here. The long term plan was to finish the 95 im on at the moment and sell it to fund a rebuild with a galv chassis for my 88.( vintage tax next year) This one came up long before i wanted it but at the price its worth looking at. On Richards site Its coming up at £1650 + £200 for a crate + £370 tax + haulage costs whatever that is going to be. A local to me haulage comp might do it for E100 ish for cash. Thats what they charged for my g/t box from james.E100 each way. So at E1500 its still cheap.

Crikey, hadn't realised those prices were without tax. so, £1650 +20% VAT = £1980 = €2297 Big difference. Sorry, Mick! When I bought mine I got it from a local LR specialist who is about 11 miles from where I live. A mate with a flat bed Ford truck brought it home for me. LR specialist mustn't have been charged delivery, cos they did not pass it on to me. Ferry prices are hellish anorl. :(
