At the week end I fitted my 021 n s Defender battery box one of these.

I bought and paid for the item the other week as my old battery tray was very rotted, so I had removed it from the seat box previously.
So I have been with out a battery tray for a wee while:eek:

Now to work out how to assemble the tray.

There are no instructions so I had to figure it out.

That's it, takes a little while to get head round but its fairly simple.
If like me you tried to force square shapes through the round holes in them things when you were a kid, you may be a while

Right, I chose to rivet it together and because I had already removed the old battery tray I fitted it with the seat box still in the fender.
This posed some problem's but overall it was a pretty simple job.
If you are replacing your tray then, you will I imagine have all yer seats out and taking the seat box out to remove the tray.
That will make your life a bit easier for some of the awkward rivets.
I chose to rivet because i cannot weld steel for **** so aluminium...you get the picture:D

I got all excited while fitting this and didn't take any more photies.
Here it is installed

Sorry about the link but it wont let me stick the piccy in:mad:

Now, as you can see, there is no way to stop the battery rolling about, not like my nice secure ratchet strap:D
So I had to make some battery supports.
Couple bits of right angle ally and a chopped down piece of door strip also in ally riveted to the base and hey presto

Battery's installed :D

Sorry about the blur, was xcited:lol:

I also installed a split charge for that second battery, but I have bored you enough:D

Hope that help someone, and a little bit of a read for anyone interested:D

YRM metal solutions were the guys that make em
Linky here: Defender
They also do lots of uvver bits for defenders and the other tratters, nowt for them new fangled freelanders hair dresser cars:lol:
Shuddit hippo:lol:

Yeah all good:D
I should however thank Mad had man here, because it was him ages ago that posted their linky a while back, so cheers MHM:D

Looking good

Are the seams sealed or open? They look pretty tidy from the piccys

My 1994 90 came with a replaced/riveted battery tray, but some of the seams have gaps which are on my 'one day' list to do something about!

Just need to replace the under seat sliding lid thing, as mine appears to have lost its one in the process!

They are not sealed, but are riveted together well, I was gonna seal between the plates before I riveted but it would have been to hard the way I done it.
If I had the seat box out I'd have done that all day long:D
I may well seal from the inside, but undecided as yet because I don't want a small mobile pond if any water gets in.
Thought about drilling holes ect but still undecided as yet.
At the bottom of the pile that one.
I gotta fit the axle I done at some point soon, done all the swivels ect.
That's the next job oh and a couple MOT bits :D

Nice job Jeff, we gotta get together soon so we can ohh and ahh over the different bits we've done lately :D

Personally i would've dragged the box down the A38 towed behind me landy to give it a nice ' used ' feel, alternatively you could just take a dump in it and leave it for a few days

You got that disco battery in there btw?

Sure is:D

It seem to be doing the trick lasted over winter when the other one died.
Not bad for a tenner from the scrappy:D:D

Yes I am up for that Paul. My birfday this weekend:eek: so gonna spend the time camping it up...er...I mean camping in the moors, hopefully:D:D
But would rather be fitting my new front axle, track rod and a drop arm ball joint:lol:

Nice one... thats on my list of things to do during the summer as from today the 90 is on SORN for the summer...

but Im going to remove the whole seat box out and weld it
