I was only saying it as a concept bloody hell! Anyway - the infra red switch (same principal as standby receiver on your TV) has a constant circuit which is fed by the car battery. When its turned on (outside the vehicle via remote) it sends a current to inverter / linked device and anyone who touches metal gets a shock, a very nasty one! The only way it can be turned off is via the remote or if someone has access to the battery - but they'll get shocked first
