I like the idea of this. It's certainly a damn sight cheaper than buying one.

I like the look of mantec ones best, like the ones on the old camel discos. Anyone know what diameter pipe they use? It looks quite think to me, but don't want to choke the engine?

Also, can somebody confirm it's simply a case of; snorkel top attatched to pipe running down A pillar, then into the vehicle, into the airbox, and then sealing up the airbox? Or am I missing something?

I'm thinking of getting southdown snorkel top, and the moulded plastic bit that goes into the wing, a bit of the correct size pipe, and flexi for inside the wing, seal it all together and it shouldn't set me back for more than £40-50. Jobs a good one.

hi all i also am thinking of a custom snorkel but the problem i have is the previous owner removed the air box and fitted a cone filter straight onto the pipe from the turbo so do i: do a home made snorkel down through the body onto a pipe running to the turbo, and put a cone filter on the top?????

any advise would be brill!

cheers

If you do a search this was asked a few weeks ago...

But the answer is no not really... without a filter you risk dragging crud into the air intake system and with a filter on top if it rains it'll get wet, act a bit like a sponge and hold water then the engine will suck the water into itself, which kinda defies the point of having a snorkel!

Get down the breakers and get a second hand air box from there!
