Having just bailed myself out of what could have been bloody annoying and costly (locked keys in car) I have a question..
When I unlock the car with the fob - and open a rear door - if I don't open a front door within somewhere around a minute, the car locks itself again. Do they all do that?
That 'feature' itself is fine - save me leaving it unlocked I suppose... right up until you chuck your keys on the front seat whilst putting baby stuff in the back, the car locks, and then you knock the back door (now locked) ..closed - leaving me staring at the keys on the drivers seat.. in a locked car. Bugger (just as well baby hadn't actually made it into his seat)
I only got one key when I bought the car - so I guess its a trip to a dealer for an expensive back up key for me then?

Just tried it on mine and mine won't auto-relock if I open anything.

If I don't open anything it relocks itself after 60 seconds.

Are you sure your courtesy light switch is working on that rear door? Sounds like it doesn't realised you've opened it.

I'll be buying another key then me thinks. As mentioned, only supplied with one at purchase.
Managed to 'break in' by getting the window down far enough to poke some wire in and press the unlock button on the fob :) lucky the keys were face up on the seat really.
Will have to check the door. Defo open the rear offside door, and it relocks again. I'll try the nearside rear door - and also investigate the switch / door connection.

They do auto re-lock but only if you don't open a door or tailgate. As KOOKYGUY says it might just be that you're unlucky and the microswitch on that door is faulty.

Sorry, a bit late there, I've never been able to type quickly.

:D

thanks - I'm gonna check the door connection as weirdly its the same door (rear offside ) that the front console window switch won't operate, although the window operates fine from the door. Maybe reseat the door multiplug.. (if there is one :- )!?

I got a spare key from Jim Mann [email protected] If you email him a pic of your key he will advise if he can cut one from the pic. (no need to send key at all) cost 8-10pounds incl p&p. Worked for my 95dt to open doors & do eka. I secured it inside the wing with a tiewrap

Thanks I will drop him a line. Presumably I am right in thinking that will just open it.. won't start it or anything without being a 'proper' key yo?

Yes it will start mine as being a 95dt the fob is only used for remote locking. However in later years the fob has to interact with a coil at the ignition switch. Not sure but I think from 96 on. You could check by taking out batteries from your fob and trying it before you buy one.

mines a 2001 - so guarantee its the latter and therefore won't start the car unless programmed /synced.. but hey if it got me in incase of locking out, and doens't cost £100's then fine!

My 95DT immobilizes the engine start, defo needs the fob to start, I think it depends on which way the becm is set up, Irishrover will know for sure...

nothing back from this bloke.. so assume he's passed on or something.

Hi, i found him through ebay & he did say at time he might not be allowed on there anymore under new regs. That's the only email but I did find this via google: Cheshire Auto Keys Ltd

Howdy - tried opening the rear door to check this and guess what - no courtesy light operating when I open that rear offside door. next Q: where is the switch? cant see anything in the shut so assuming its inside the door / door card offski?

I have a nasty feeling they're incorporated in the door latch mechanism...

Nothing like over complicating it for the sake of it!

Sounds like this might be the cause though.

Guy

mm great. might have a little look over the weekend as I am changing the front drivers door regulator out anyway - then again might end up just living with it and remembering that door won't stop it locking :)
