LED bulbs - poor distinction between stop and tail???

Hi all,

I've just got myself some clear lenses for my 300tdi, they came with std red bulbs, which I put in, but when on! they look very pinkish and when I depress the brake pedal, they practically look white! So......I decided to get some LED bulbs from eBay.

They came and I put them in, they looked great, a lot redder, and nice and bright, HOWEVER, when the brake pedal is depressed they only get say 10% brighter??? I.e. not much difference between tail and stop and tail!

Anyone else had this problem?

Anyone got any ideas?

Problem I had with mine was the neck of the bulb was not long enough to reach into the light

The led bulbs I had in mine were a tight fit but did go in. They were also much brigter when the brake lights were on.

Just thought that I'd point outh that unless yer vehicle is 1987 (I think) or earlier it is illegal to fit non led bulbs into a light fitting designed for filament bulbs. It is however legal to fit an led light fitting in the place of a filament light fitting.

Filament lamps

14.(1) Where a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1986 or any trailer manufactured on or after 1st October 1985 is equipped with any lamp of a type that is required by any Schedule to these Regulations to be marked with an approval mark, no filament lamp other than a filament lamp referred to in the Designation of Approval Marks Regulations in
(a)regulation 4 and Schedule 2, items 2 or 2A, 8, 20, 37 or 37A; or
(b)regulation 5 and Schedule 4, item 18,
shall be fitted to any such lamp.

I'm no wiser from Ratty's original post!

Daft - illuminate me please (pun intended

) - what on earth is a non led bulb if it isn't a filament one?

or for that matter, from the extarct above, no filament lamp other than a filament lamp? Isn't that the same thing?
