Leaking rainwater channel

The mastic in the rainwater channel has fine crazing and so I spread some silicone sealant which stopped it for a time but then the silicone started to come away and it leaked again.
My question is, is there a good way of removing the old mastic and then replace it with {what }

Silicone sealant never lasts long outdoors.
I would try rubbing down the channel with something like a small, brass wire brush. Get shot of all the silicone, then I would apply seam sealer down the channel using a spreader the width of the channel.
