Hi all,

Just swapped my Freelander with the van on the drive and noticed quite a strong diesel smell. Looks like it's leaking in at least 2 places (see picture).

Any ideas? Safe to drive far as could do with using it tomorrow?

As said could be HP fuel pump , leak appears from between bottom pulley/ sump drove a few hundred miles on mine with leak ,£ 500 for garage to do

Drop the sump guard and give us a butter look .

Does it start/tick over ok?

Have you tried a search on here or giggle?

Thanks for the ideas guys. Its been in the garage this morning and of course it didn't leak when I started it up and hasn't leaked whilst its been with them and they say there isnt any real evidence of any leaks. They said it looked surprisingly clean for a land rover! Starting to think I've imagined it now! :-s

They have got it until tomorrow anyway whilst they wait for a part for the heater so it might start again, who knows!

the hp pump is known to leak only when cold , my leak stopped for 2 weeks , then re appeared , I spent a while under the car with the engine running could not find a leak !

Agreed .....usually will only leak on a cold morning from the piston caps when first started and then seals itself after 30- 60secs as the pump gets warm and is then fine for the rest of the day......just open the bonnet and get someone to start it up while you look at the hp pump which is located above the oill filter housing on the engine block near the left hand engine mount.
