My P38 2002 didn't have any puddle lights on the rear doors nor footwell lights. I obtained these and fitted them. They all worked straight away. Now, the rear nearside door fails to light them up. If I flick the door handle and let it hammer they come on but only seldom. If I flick the childlock switch they come on but only maybe. All the other doors work everything as they should excepting the rear nearside door puddle lock. I've been advised that this is the lock needing replacement. I've checked the workshop comic and, surprise surprise, this looks like another laugh of a job entailing dismantling of the window winding stuff and other surgery. I've learned to check with you guys before doing anything. Really looking forward to your get out of jail cards. regards P.S

it sounds like just a bad connection to me! may be that simple?
check ya connections, there maybe a loose one!

Done connections to hell. Even metered multi connector points to see if they're all laced up o.k. I'd love it to have been a connector as the door panel comes off like a dream. I'm thinking of bridging the multi connector, though, to make absolutely sute now you've said that. I see it's still 1xwife and 0xkids. The 1x wife must love cars or you're a millionaire! best regards P.S

I'm about to take on this job, now. If it ever stops raining. I've located a door latch assembly at an o.k price. Can anyone say if the rear door locks were modified through P38 production? I've looked in the manual and, as a rule, p99y and pre 99y are seperated. Not in this instance, though. Fingers crossed. Thanks. P.S

Yep, that's what it was. I shoved the loom about and everything worked. I've established that the lock design had changed from pre 99y and instead of having a multi socket it has a set of fly leads which arrive at a multi socket 6inches down the line. There's a couple of fixings in the panel that holds the window mechanism hidden by the door shell and the manual says to dismantle all the window winding stuff to get at the lock. Is there a short cut to this, like drilling holes to get at the fixings, does anyone know? I still need to get the lock out to fix the loose cable. Look forward to your get out of jail cards. regards P.S

O.K. there's stuff that gets thrown up from a search on these door lock things but not how to get them off. My problem turned out to be the micro switch in the rear N/S door latch assembly not making when the latch opened. The lock'll come out without dismantling the window lifting gear and the panel to which it's all mounted which, in turn, is rivetted to the door shell. This has to be removed, according to the manual, in order to remove two "studs" which attach a bracket on the lock to it. These "studs" are simply plastic trim plugs. A twist with a screwdriver'll remove them. A bit of wangling will get the lock out with a bit of creative bending of the lock actuating coathanger pushrod. The lock dismantles logically so the micro switch can be suitably switchcleaned and replaced. Also, these locks did turn out to have been modified, I guess, from y99 on. Previously they had a socket to take the loom multiplug on the assembly. Subsequently they had fly leads terminating in a multi socket. I guess this'll be of no use to the old hands but, hopefully, it'll be of use to someone who's contemplating latch removal. regards. P.S
