it used to have a 2.5td unit in it before it that helps?
i know its forra petrol but dependin on wot thread yer thermostat housin as got you,ll more than likely need it as it is an adapter to enable yer td sender unit to fit:D

I put the sender unit from my 2.5TD into the 200Tdi when I converted and it reads much higher at normal temperatures than the TD did.
The higher reading looks normal for the 200Tdi.

Mine was doing 50Mph indicated on my speedo but everyone else was going backwards my dad reckoned his disco was up at 72Mph Really should change the speedo gear at some point

Just get the right sender and swap them (they're only about 6 quid)...mine now sits in the middle nicley. Go up to 3/4 when cruising at 70. Never gets into the red.

Ok so I bought the temp sender for the petrol motor Landy, part no. PRC 2505 - fits my thread type ok.

however on a short run the temp gauge still rises into the red, so I'm starting to think it could be the wiring that is at fault rather than the sender. :(

any pointers on where to start looking? behind the dash?

Why did you buy a petrol one??? have you got a petrol engine or gauge???

The guage is calibrated to the temperatures for the 2.5TD not the 200Tdi.
If you want the guage to sit in the right place then you need to get a 200Tdi guage for the defender and the 200Tdi sender.
Or you could get a digital temperature setup and see what temperature the engine sits at during normal use.
Either way, unless the engine is boiling over after every use I wouldn't worry and just change your expectations of where the guage sits.

I was going on Oil Dripper's advice to buy it, I did ask him why but he said yeah that's what you need, part number prc 2505
