Hi
I've been getting some good insurance quotes recently for my series 3 SWB V8
but they all seem to have a big restriction on the cover provided, something
like this:

"This policy will not cover loss or damage caused by fire to your car or it'
s accessories being stolen or taken without your permission if your car is
not in a securely locked garage between 2200 and 0600 hrs unless it is
temporarily parked or garaged during the course of a journey"

Since I can only park it on the street these policy's are not much use to me
but I am having trouble finding a policy that provides proper full cover, at
any cost. Anyone had problems like this before?

Thanks

Probably depends on where you live. I've not noticed(*) such a
restriction on any of my policies and I'm 99.9% sure I've told them
it's parked on the forecourt, our property but by the road no barrier,
and not garaged.

I'm curious about the wording of that quote it seems a bit woolly when
you *really* look at what it is saying.

(*)Makes mental note to go a check sometime...

Have you tried Liverpool Victoria?
I found them very good.

I had all that sort of nonsence to start with, which is as much to say as if
you don't put it in shrink wrap in a nuclear bunker you might as well forget
it, well those insurance companies surely dare not claim they are in the
insurance business so much as in the extortion one,

I eventually insured via Footman James on a classic policy with no
restrictions whatever.

Me too. Been with them for two years now. I felt a bit "disloyal"
switching from Direct Line right in the middle of them sorting out the
problems caused by a batty woman driving into the side of me, but I
saved over a 100 pounds a year.

That's odd, I didn't bother getting a quote from Footman James this year
because last year the documents they sent with the quote had the following:

"The insurance will not pay for any theft or malicious damage that occurs
between 10pm and 6am if the vehicle is not in a locked private garage and is
parked at or near;
* The proposers home; or
* any other address where the vehicle is normally kept that has been agreed
by us."

I think I'll give them a call to see if that has changed this year.
I still find it very strange that I can pay nearly the same price to insure
a new Jaguar, keep it on the road at night and have no such restrictions.
Considering something like a wing mirror or just the paint being scratched
will cost a hell of a lot more the repair than an old beat up Land Rover!

Just found this on the website for Peter Best.
"Land Rovers must be garaged or parked on the drive - street parking is not
permitted"
Also they say they don't cover modified vehicles so there no help to me
anyway.

Well I have used them before, and the only restriction is limiting property
damage to £20,000 so I had better be carefull whose shed I demolish.

Perhaps because my agreed value is that high and that I have not made any
claims off them in respect of the landie yet they are not worried.

I guess there are no general rules with insurance at all, it depends upon
the indiviual and the vehicle, as I got all manner of BS from NFU and
others.

so Larry was, like...

And don't hit a Rolls Royce or you'll be spending the rest of your life in
debtors' prison. This is a hell of a restriction - most 3rd party liability
insurance covers you for 1-2 million these days. Seriously, you could have
an accident with any other car (or cars) on the road. How far is 20K going
to go - and can you foot the rest?

Property as in hedges walls and shacks, not as in cars, there is a
difference.

And anyway you can't sue a debtor can you :)
