Hi - I am in the process of removing the engine from my 1987 110 with the 2.5 td engine in it. I started it up this morning and let it warm up but noticed that as it was warming up there was a small leak from the fuel injector pump. As the engine got warm this developed into a steady drip.
I dont know anything about these injector pumps:confused:.
Are there any gaskets that may need replacing or is it a new injector pump (please say no!)

Thanks

P.S. Sorry about title of thread i meant fuel not oil!

common leak point is from the solenoid on the injector pump this will have a small wire coming out of it. this just needs a new solenoid which is very cheap and easy to fit. just go around checking all pipes are ok(it could mean the seals at the end of the pipes goosed, which would mean a new pipe....again very inexpensive!!) and all union bolts are tight like sypher said.
i wouldn't worry about the injector as a whole in terms of replacing it just yet.
just been under and on top of my 2.5td testing the whole of the fuel line......not cool!
hope this helps!

someone posted this pic for me the other day! very usefull.
the solenoid is situated at number 9.
find where the leak is and let us no wat number best corresponds to the place of leak.

ok, im not entirely sure what this is but it is likely to have a gasket underneath which has gone. could you take a picture and post it on here?

That if for locking the pump on TDC , if i remember correctly teres only a copper washer under the centre bolt .

I took both screws out of the plate toay and removed it. All there was, was an o ring which did not look to healthy so i replaced it with another started the engine and it appeared to be ok for about 5 mins and then started dripping again. I am not sure if there should be a gasket in there because there was not one there but the exploded diagram i have does show one being in there??? Upon closer inspection it also appears to be leaking a bit from position 2 and 4. Is this a major problem? (i hope not and so does my bank account!):(

once again , im not sure what 4 is(as u can tell im deffinatly no pro!!!!!):D
2 is one of the injector pipes. it may be that the bolt has come loose so it would be worth loosening it slightly and then tightening it up again and see if that solves that one. if it is still leaking from point 2 then you may need to replace that particular injector pipe(cheap and easy to fit ur self)
The exploded diagram is a strange one. just double and tripple check it is the right diagram(basic i know and no doubt u have but u would feel like a tit if it was the wrong one) if it definatly states there is a gasket in there then i would search around on land rover parts websites and try and find the part.
again with 4 just check that it is all tight and it would be worth checking that there is no corrosion of any seals that may be around this bolt.
i will check if my injector pup has a gasket under position 5 tomoro after work and get back to you.

like i said i only have a very slight knowledge of this so it would be worth checking with someone who knows more before you start stripping the injector pump as it is a very intricate and expensive bit of kit!

also bear in mind that it may not actually be leaking from the point you think it is but it may just be noticable from that point because it is dripping off. for example if the gasket between the two halves of the injector has gone just above point 4 or 5 or on that whole side then the fuel is likely to run down the side and drip off the points of the bolts.
just check this also!
dont get too worried yet though, you just need to do a process of elimination!

I have made a break through! I have had a really good look at it this morining and it appears to be running down the side of the injector pump from position 10. Does anybody know if there is a seal under the throttle assembly that may be perished?

Thanks

Hi can anyone tell me what part number 4 is in the picture. Its been baffling everyone and i cannot find the name on the internet anywhere. Many thanks

I think it is the proportional pressurising valve on the pump cambox, would welcome a second opinion though, not something that comes up very often.

Okay thanks for the advise, yeah second opinions are welcomed. Do you have any idea what the valve does, what it controls or what its used for etc. Thanks again

I do have some ideas about those things, yes. Maybe I shall tell you in due course.
Do you have any idea what the usual norms of social behaviour are? :)

I just wanted to no what it does
We know that already fearn1969. But we dont know anything else.
My comment about social norms ws prompted by the fact that you have told us nothing about yourself, your vehicle, or the reason for your enquiry. If you tried to interest peeps in your problem they are more likely to take an interest.
I answered your question last night because it was within my area of interest, and due to a small chance that you were sat at the roadside with fuel ****ing out of your motor.
There is an Introduce Yourself forum at the top of home page. I think this is there so peeps can make their presence known before popping up with random questions.
Basic social skills also suggest that when someone accurately and speedily answers your q. it might not be tactful to post in your reply that second opinion is required, one thing for me to ask for confirmation, maybe a bit rude on your part ;)
