Hi All

Newbie here and trying to introduce myself and ask a quesation in the appropriate place in the same thread

i have recently bought a series manufactured in 1965 and registered in 1977 but when i sent the logbook away to the DVLA they have told me that the vehicle is down as scrapped. The vehicle was SORN until the summer and as such i have two questions is it feasible for a scrapped vehicle to be re registered and secondly could it have been declared scrapped by the DVLA due to it being out of SORN

MAny thanks in advance:rolleyes:

Did you have the whole log book?
or just part of it?

what I mean is...if you dont have the complete log book, i guess at some point, the strip of the log book that is to be sent to the DVLA when the vehicle is scrapped, was sent to them... leaving the owner, with half a log book and a vehicle...

you just bought a vehicle that should have been scrapped and never was.

you been conned....

actually, the previous owner could even applied for a second log book, so he would have a complete one for when selling it

i am begining to feel the same way i got and old style blue logbook and in hindsight didn't realise that there may be a strip on the bottom been along time since i have seen one of those i was given a sorn declaration that expired in around june

was that SORN declaration a letter of acknolodgement from DVLA?

you can have a vehicle SORNd for as long as you want, just need to keep renewing the SORN every year

Hang on there!!!
So it has been recorded as scrapped?
Why?
Find out - it mite just need a VIC:)
Speak to the DVLA.

Did yu buy it privately?
Read the "crock of ****" thread and fanny-tics sig.
Do not act in haste.
Ensure yu have all the facts!

Hi TMHM

Yes i bought it privately and i have read your sticky thread and i don't think that it applies but i am intrigued by the VIC please tell me more

Im sorry i seem to be missing the point here i have read the sticky re buying a crock of **** and i understand that the seller has a respnsibility however the vehicle cost £300 plus £100 fuel to collect it was through ebay and in wigan i am in South Bucks and i am not sure it is worth spending the time or money on it i am more interested in ascertaining my position on my current dead duck. I sent the logbook back to the DVLA and after no reply my wife rang them on my behalf when they informed her that the vehicle is down as scrapped i am prseuming therefore that all now posess is a scrap value vehicle. I did read the link that was posted and again i am showing my ignorance as it didn't seem to give me any answers apart from the legalities of SORN and i am still unaware of what VIC stands for.

cant you tell dvla youve built a vehicle from bits of several and get it reregistered on a q plate or a different age related plate?...

id ring up dvla tell them id bought a chassis and engine that came with the plates and log book rebuilt it to origional spec with mechanical and body parts from other scrappers , now its complete you realise its got to be sorn or taxed and see what they suggest.... you may find you have to pay for some sort of inspection

Have you personally rung up the DVLA and asked their advise on what to do? if not DO SO.

They can be helpful occasionally.

FFS! It sounds as if the guy has said "oh, ok" and put the phone down on the DVLA after being informed it's been scrapped. FFS call them, explain what's happened and ask what they suggest as they are the ones in the know.
