Would you buy a landy to your spec or do you go out for one that you can do yourself. Must admit, id love to buy a minter pretty much to my spec with just the cosmetic add ons to do. Getting a bit fed up with it mostly in the shed and not the funds to just get on with it:(

I'd either buy KP's old pink Range Rover or the yellow NAS 90 from the Baby One More Time video.. in case Britney leaned against it..

Wha?

I'd love to buy a new one and drop a 300tdi into it.
I was discussion this subject earlier and I decided I would still like to build it myself even if I had the money to buy one already done. You can't beat the satisfaction of finishing your own project and knowing it inside out!!

Well, If I had any amount of money, Id work part time, and buy a 101 (Ideally a IIA/IIB F/C) and use the rest of my time to convert it to a camper.

Hear hear :( They seem to start ok with me as I've saved a bit, then end up running out of money/income.
And I'm an impatient twunt and want it done

But yeah, if I had a decent budget I'd build something similar to what I have but to a better spec.
Galv chassis/bulkhead and as many other galv parts as I could. And better parts where applicable.
You can always improve in places, and more so than I first thought. So every build seems to end up going further than the last. I.e more time/money

At the end of it, budget is the thing that limits what you can and can't do. Maybe one day I'll build something exactly as I want it.
A decent workshop/garage would be nice too, so you can take your time without worry of prying eyes or getting **** wet through as soon as you get yer tools out

If I had the money i'd to small to medium nut and bolt jobs id do myself but anything that I want to look neat, like a respray and interior styling i'd have done professionally.

Already got the galv chassis, so I'd fit a galv bulkhead, and have the old 2.5 N/A and entire transmission rebuilt to be good as new, Might even retrofit power steering to treat myself. Money no problem, I'd build a workshop and do it all myself!

Galv chassis, galv bulkhead, capping doors & bonnet frames.....well basically everything steel will get the galv treatment. Then it's very tempting to do a 300 tdi auto conversion along with upgrade to power steering and alisport rad frame and uprated intercooler. All the seal contact areas will have those skf special sleeves on them to improve sealing and wear rates etc

3 sets of specialist tyres and wheels, all terrains, muds and a studded set......

....there's always more

good thread, I love these flights of fancy

I served my apprenticeship with Drew Bowler back in the day, we were blacksmiths together in Derby.
I remember when he bought his first pip bender to make his own roll cage as he didn't want to pay full whack for one.

claim to fame ;)
