Vehicle 1984 110 converted to 300 TDI
Previous owner put in discovery style security system with 2 button key fob, spider and a green box behind dash.. AMR6431

The only way I can run truck is to run jumper from battery to injection pump and roll start vehicle.

I did my internet research and found out that the spider unit (AMR4899) was the most likely fault ...... So I purchased the rover spider bypass wiring harness (AMR4956) and excitedly removed my spider and replaced it with this harness...... Blah. No difference.

I have a clue as to where I go from here. Realize that this is a 1984 with a retrofitted two button security system. I have no codes or what not, the doors are manual locking etc etc. I live in a remote part of Minnesota where homes are unlocked and I do not need any security system and an immobilizer is just a potential problem. What do i need to do to rid myself of this blight and get my truck simplified.

I can still drive truck with hotwire to injector but I am running out of friends willing to push me to and down the hill to roll start her.

Please help.

Gonna have to look at loom and see where alarm has been spliced in and then remove it.

or

Run a wire from the battery though a starter button and on to the solenoid on the starter (fused of course)

Ah indeed. No introduction. My social graces have never been my strong suit.

I consider myself a fine figure of a farmer, a physician by trade, running rovers since my education days, first rover was a 59 109 and it still is a mainstay of my vehicles. Not so pretty, not so quiet, not so comfortable on long trips (1 ton springs) but she starts everytime and does what is needed.

Got my first defender after a long search. Was planning a trip over the pond to find one but was lucking to find one in the US which had most of what I wanted on the list. Once in the garage, i tore into her and found out that not all was as it appeared but after about 4 months of intermittent evening work with appropriate sound track and beverages, she has become my primary vehicle for everything from going to market or hauling my birddogs through the northwoods of Minnesota. I like to do endurance canoe races and the defender hauls me to and fro to various big water venues.

I like to do all the work myself but do get in over my head at times and have to search out smart people you are more knowledgable and have a generous heart, willing to impart some direction in my problem solving.

I like beer, women, dogs, boats, and a good campfire. I love my children, my lover, my dogs and my mamma (although she tends to stick her overcaring nose a little too far into the life of her middle aged son). I like a good joke, hard work and I believe in Universal Health Care. I did not like President Bush, I like President Obama but I wish he showed a little more backbone.

Thats my introduction..... How do you do? Nice to meet you.

Now back to the problem at hand.....

I believe the wiring loom was replaced with late 90's era so there was no splicing in.
I would rather solve this problem without it looking like I duct taped it.

So my question is about the mysterious green box behind the dash AMR6431. Is that integral in the wiring or can it just be unplugged and pulled out?

Any good wiring diagrams that explain the voodoo behind the the two button fob, green box, spider immobilizer system that I could stare at until I either solve the problem or have a seizure?
