Holes where the light guards were!

Thanks for the tips - tomorrow I plan to mask it off properly - I actually have a scratch I've sanded down on one of the back wings, so am planning to allow quite a lot of over-spray to blend in, especially when I start attempting to do the colour coats myself!

One thing I forgot to mention, after a tip on the internet, I put the can of primer in a bucket of hot water while I was eating my curry to warm it up. I have Tesco food bags with zip-lok tops which were big enough to seal the can of paint so it didn't get wet - not that it really matters, I suppose.

Another thing I forogt to mention, earlier in the thread, someone commented on the brackets being a b*stard to get off - I had to grind through a couple of the screws with a cutting disk, and actually ground straight through one of the light guards since I knew I was only throwing them out anyway.

Since necroposts are all the rage on here these days... Endeleus, do you still have the photos from your post above? and did you ever take any more of the finished article?

the best thing to do with the holes is to have then welded. if you nly bodge it with filler and aerosol, it will look a state and wont last. the filler will eventually blow out. body shop the best option.

Indeed I do still have the pics... attached below.

I never did take any pics of the final result - I might get a chance to take some at the weekend when I'm back home.

The colour match was fine, cost me a couple of days and a few quid from Halfords.

I have a fairly large dent on the drivers side rear quarter, on mine, and put a coupe of plasters on a few years back hoping it would mend! suppose the amount of plaster you would need would make yours look a bit bashed up (LOL).
p.s. they are still there, good advert for them.

Fantastic, thanks so much for that! I've never done any spraying myself so might bottle it at that stage and take it to a pro, but I could definitely probably maybe manage the filling/sanding. :)

:D

I got Chips-Away to quote me to fix up the holes. To remove the rivnuts, fibreglass, fill and paint all 4 wings and tailgate was £540.

If I prepared it myself up to the primer stage it would be £360 to paint and lacquer it.

If they do all the work there's a lifetime guarantee, that doesn't apply if I do the prep myself.

Yeah, given the difference in price and the fact I've never done anything like this before I'd probably just get them to do the whole lot. I'm going to get another quote though before doing anything.
