Hi I hope someone can help my dad brought a landrover series 3 as a project to get over moms sudden death from cancer he was doing well but now duexpired to I'll health needs palliative care .before getting really he he found out there's no over drive in the landy I know nothing but does he need it or can it be blanked off we just want to get it running so he can drive just once before his time is up any advicevent would be grateful

Hi. Welcome. Overdrive for a series landy was an optional extra. So, if it doesn't have one it'll drive fine with just the std four gears. Not sure what you mean by the hole being blanked off. If your talking about the hole beside the handbrake yes, just blank it off or are you referring to the gearbox itself?

The gear box it self I was told I had to put a coned shaped it's like hexagon with 6 holes for bolts which the person put back in .sorry as I said I'm new to working with motors

I know the piece you mean, the cover plate with six bolt holes. it wouldn't cost much to buy one from Craddock's or Paddocks' . Given them a phone and see what the price is, plus the bolts! Can't remember if it also needs a gasket, just ask. Alternatively, you could try to get hold of a second hand cover. but you'd need to try a local independent landy garage and that's all a bit random
