Hi,
my name is steve, i'm looking into buying a Land Rover just to try some off roading really, the idea sounds like fun and it doesn't sound too expensive if i keep my real world head on! :)
I'm looking for a Landie, probably a (cheaper, older) V8 Disco or RR but who knows, maybe some of you can give me the details on a 200 or a 300 diesel. One thing i know is it will be old, i've never had much money so old is always the case!

Hi, hello, eyup etc etc

dont make the mistake of thinkin you can buy a cheap bit of crap to use off road... it needs to be up for the job, welcome

Hi, thanks

i'm not looking at spending more than about £1200 on a car but i'm pretty handy with the spanners and a diy mig welder!

i paid £800 for a 1991 200tdi t&t at tyres rock slides and lifted, its cost me an alternator front and rear hub seals and a set of rear bearings im pleased with ive got for the money, take someone who knows land rovers if poss and shop around they're cheap enuff at the moment

With your budget you'll most likely end up with a Disco, and if you're looking to do any wading whilst off road, a diesel would probably be best. The 200 or 300 lumps are both decent engines and will run to big mileage's if cared for.

Your biggest worry will be rust.

Remember to figure into your budget for at least a decent set of AT/MT tyres before going off road as that will be your best mod to the car oh and a strong enough tow rope!

Have a search of the forum as there's loads of info on what problem's to look for when buying, better yet get a LR owner to go with you.

anyone who thinks offroading is a cheap hobby is very much mis informed

youll end up buying the cheapest landy you can which will end up being a bag of cack

you will break things and like diffs, props
you will get the arse after bein stuck and others dont,so youll want bigger and better offroad tyres, then you get the bug and go to town on all the goodies

i bought my 90 totally standard for £2500 18 months ago
and i reckon ive spent well over 3k on it

the skys the limit with this hobby its all down to how much wonga ya got
