Hi All,

I just went camping for the first time in 20 years and for a laugh, bought an old Discovery V8i to take along. Despite being 15 years old and off road in a barn for 4 years, she got from London to the Highlands without missing a beat. What a machine! So I've decided to keep the beast.

However... I'm now experiencing an annoying problem with idling at different revs and frequent cutting out. Strangely, it also seems like the revs are pinking even whilst I'm maintaining speed (you can almost make out a sort of burbling from the engine note). I've been given several opinions on the cause but thought I'd get on a forum of real users to ask for your thoughts.

I should point out that my knowledge of all things mechanical is miniscule so I'll be getting a mechanic to look at it. I'd just like to be able to point them in the right direction!

All suggestions gratefully received!

:welcome2: to the Forum first.
Second what are the other opinions and have u followed through and have u eliminated them all, it will save time.
Check the crankcase breather and hose is clear that's an easy one to start.

For me the unskilled telling the skilled what is what is not on :mil90:

Hi discool,

The other opinions have been:

1. They don't like the heat. It'll be OK once the weather cools!
2. Ah you need to reposition your radiator
3. You have crud in the fuel lines

As the first thing I did was to get a full service including replacement of all filters/fluids, none of these seem to make sense (and the first two just seem odd). As for the unskilled telling the skilled, I just want to avoid looking like the numpty I am when it comes to cars!

I'll now try and find a diagram somewhere that shows me what a crankcase breather is and where to find it!

Thanks again
