I've just bought a 2002 series 2 TD5. and today the rear door won't open.
It's been very well cared for, and before I have a heart attack -I like to solve these little problems myself- does anyone have any idea what I might have done, and how to undo it? I've tried the various combinations of locking and unlocking the doors with the igniition on and off, with the doors closed and opened, even sending the son inside to try and open the door from the interior. But no joy. I should add the car is a French model, LHD. Perhaps this is a peculiarity of the french market?
In case your pig wants to escape?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I had this problem. It was actually the rear door handle. If you prize out the Land rover logo on the back handel and spray some WD40 on to the mechanism it will loosen up the door lever.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Thanks Bazza, I will go and find the WD 40 now!
The car has been on a farm here in France for a few months, and I don't think the previous owner (an Australian) ever opened the rear doors or the tailgate.
I've only had the car a month, and I keep finding deposits of mud in odd places....... but then this is a rural area.
Thanks again,

For the record, I prised off the logo, sprayed the lock and it seems to work. Thanks again.
I thought it might have been an electrical fault. I'm still trying to work out for the manual what superlocking is, and if that caused the problem. God save WD40.

isnt it great when a problem like that can be fixed in seconds and cost little or no money. Unfortunatley these are rare with Landrover.

Glad i could help.

I have a 2000 es TD5 Disco, when you press the bleep to open the doors " ONLY "the drivers side opens , then I press the bleep again to open the other doors no problem I think this was some sort of security thing "LANDROVER " made I could be wrong in saying that but I think this might be your problem.

This is a standard security device that has become popular around the world. Single press only opens driver's door, to leave all the others locked so no one can pop into your passenger's seat as you are stopped at the lights. Its quite a big thing in USA and growing here in Aus. Helps reduce car jackings apparently.

Its so you can lock your family in the car when you go to the parts store and they dont follow you around saying.." Can we go now?"...and... "We're bored.."
Bloody good idea, but I had managed to lock the 18 year old son in the car while he attempted to open the lock from the inside, and then I wandered off leaving him in there, in the sun. for about ten minutes, It was only 25C, so it didn't hurt him, but the frantic hooting of the horn caused great amusement when we realised he was in the car and couldn't get out.....!

I'm realising this car is a hybrid of some sort. I live between France and England, and bought it in France a month ago, It was sold by a main dealer, and I'm the third owner. It flew back to London this evening, showing 175 kph on the the French motorway which certainly impressed me.
But then I turned the lights on. The front indicators are illuminated at the same time as the sidelights,Like an American car, and the rear lights are like red illuminations- all vertical bulbs of red light - weren't they supposed to be in the rear bumper?
It looks good too, a blue metallic, a colour I've not seen on any Rover before.
I understood superlocking was to make thieves who break in climb throuigh the broken glass, as they shouldn't be able to open the doors after smashing the woindow...
What a voyage of discovery this is.... or is that a bad joke?

Thanks for your comment, but I tried all that stuff, The locking system I'm familiar with, I also own a Jeep, and that's standard on most US cars, I agther, has been for more than ten years. Tha problem was the rear lock, and WD40 seems to have cured it.

Hmmm same thought here except that I cant get the red ones in my rear bumper to come on. Parkers and stop lights on the body..unknown on the rear bumper...and yes, my frt orange ones come on with the headlights.

#$%^ terrible :D

I don't think Discoveries for the UK market have the same lighting configuration. Certainly the indicators are not illuminated simultaneously with the sidelights. I know this is all a bit silly, like,
Oooh, look, it's got orange lights!!
but I'm having difficulty disliking a car I just bought and didn't expect to like.
It was real bargain, bought from a bloke who told me he had to sell it or his tractor, and as he's a farmer, and we wanted a LHD car, seemed a logical buy.
I can't really find anything I hate about it yet.
