Heavy power steering

I noticed that the power steering on my disco 300 tdi is quite heavy at low speeds, i.e. when manoeuvring out of a parking space on the side of the road. The pas fluid is not low.

Is this normal for a disco?

No, i'd be checking the tension on the belt.

Failing that air pressure in tyres. Can affect that as well.

It is a little heavier turning right than turning left (while stationary - it is fine atm when driving along at speed)

It's never the palm of the hand steering what you can do in some cars to spin the wheel around, also stiff ball joints and or steering damper won't help.

Is the pas unit a recon one?

I had one that was unbalanced and it turned out it was a badly built recon unit. Replaced with a new Adwest one and steering is now balanced, never a light steer though

either worn pump if revving makes it easier or piston seals in box, probably both,youd get used ones cheap now

I had exactly the same problem - I had dented the steering damper. When it moved in, steering was stiff. Might be worth taking dmper off and seeing if that is the problem, though you might get steering vibration. Make sure you keep a note of where all the nuts washers and bushes are when removing the damper.
