Since it's getting colder and my rear wash wipe only works once in a blue moon (must be a relay issue...) I was going to use the heated rear screen but it doesn't appear to be working. The switch works as the wing mirrors cleared (didn't even know I had heated mirrors..)

My question is, what do I have to test to work out if the whole element is gone on the rear screen or could it be a fuse or lose connection? It all looks plugged in back there.

Try multi meter, switch on the rear screen and put the multi meter electrodes one each side, that will tell you if you have power through the window

It is highly unlikely that the whole element is gone. Usually one or two of the wires are not working while others work. Most likely the problem lies somewhere else.

You can check the element easily also with a multimeter by checking the resistance between the connections on each side (take the wires from the loom off). If the resistance is 1, then the element is gone near the connectors. If 0, then the element if fine.

Most likely the wires have just gone bad near the window hinges and the feed is connected to the back frame. Check the voltage between these wires when the wires are disconnected and the heater is turned on. Should be around 13-14.5V, when the engine is running. If not - you have a blown fuse, relay or the feed is connected to ground somewhere along the line (most likely near the back-window hinges)

Soldered it back on and it doesn't seem much better. Will do the checks you guys suggest to try and find what's up.

Your heated rear screen goes through an electrical box that boosts the radio aerial and is located above the rear screen between the roof and head lining. I found that a loose connection had melted the housing and the wire had come off. I put it back on and all was fine.

Thanks Craig

That's interesting - I'll check there too. Then I might find out why my stereo only picks up Classic FM too - I thought that was a standard range rover feature....:)
