Hi,

Yesterday I completed a swivel housing overhaul, which went well I thought until it came to bolting the spindle back onto the axle. With the spindle bolted on but not torqued up, the half shaft is free to move in and out slightly, which I believe is correct right?

But when I torque the bolts up (65nm I think), the half shaft doesn't budge. I can't figure out why not!

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers.

cv has to be pulled into stub axle fully, use a bolt in the thread in the end of shaft to pull it through fully , is drive member tight on splines

If the edge of cv is worn where it sits in phosphor bronze bush on half shaft seat it before trying to fit stub axle

Ah ok, so try and pull the cv joint into the spindle housing before fitting it? I think that's what you're both saying right?

i use one of the bolts from the drive flange. wind it into the end of the shaft and it makes it easier to pull into the stub axle

Yeah that's what I normally do but with the spindle bolted down, the half shaft won't budge.

I'm going to investigate the previous suggestions later today, namely ensuring the CV joint is housed properly. Hope I haven't knackered anything up by tightening it!!

think your find cv isn't located in stub axle bronze bush

I think I have it, I made sure the CV joint was properly located and torqued it all up. Still couldn't move the half shaft around, or turn it by hand but all seems fine with the wheel on when I spin that. It's just harder to spin than the other side!
