fuse blowing

I had fuses blowing recently - instrument panel lights, sidelights, headlamps, rear lamps. Drove me nuts til I pulled the radio out and found bare wires from previous owner's fitting that were shorting. That was my problem. It was intermittant as I guess movement of the car was causing contact with a wire flopping about. I would replace a fuse (or fuses - there were about 3 that kept going), drive along fine then go over a speed bump or something and pop, lights out.

Still confused did the alt. test and all ok max of 14.7 dropping to 14.12 at tick over.
So tried replacing fuse with engine running it blew even on tick over, god i wish it was clutch failure that would be simple ffs.

had another "go" this afternoon pulling connectors off and trying new fuse no change but somewhere along the way i have done something fuse now blows as soon as ignition is turned on dont have to start it anymore arggggggggggg!

Have a closer look at your ignition switch ;)

checked the ign.switch all feeds are ok but will anyone with a 300 TDI disco do us a favour and check if when fuse 14 is pulled out if the digital clock still works because according to my fuse box and rave fuse 14 runs the clock and instruments but my digital clock is still working and am wondering if this could be connected to the fault i have ????cheers folks
Anyone heard of using a headlamp bulb with both filiments connected as a substitute for a fuse ?
