hi all, i'm new to this and looking for any help I can get :)

I live in NI and my freelander failed its MOT last night, the previous owner removed the propshaft and vc, making it 2 wheel drive, and this is the reason the examiner gave for failing my car, he said it would have to be restored to 4wd to pass. I am a woman (!) and don't know much about any of this, but does anyone know if this is correct, as I didn't think the removal of this made the car unsafe for the road ??? any help very much appreciated thanks :)

Hi no it doesn't make the car unsafe but i beleave the mot in irland is different to ours (uk) and has to be as the manufacturer intended, theres someone one here from irland and i think he's had some dealing with this problem

a bomb would be easily accessible right enough lol i have already tried to take the garage i bought it from to trading standards when i discovered it had been removed, but the guy denied he had done the work, he said i must have carried it out, which i know i didn't, and therefore it was my word against his so ts said there was nothing they could do, so looks like the scrapyard beckons...

Like it or not NI is governed by British law and regulations,so its a UK MOT.I would say it is in the UK but I think they refer to it as the UK and Northern Ireland.

Here in the free state we have the NCT(National Car Test)similar to the mot.

Last time I took my freelander for the test I was told by the testers that I should remove the prop for better performance among other reasons. They reckon its ok so long as everything else like diff mounts and seals are good.

Ring around your test centres and ask if its ok that the prop is off.I cant see a problem
