Hi all, new to Freelander, and Auto's.
Next to drive I can knock the Lever into M/S, now I don't have a users manual yet;
Following some online reading some people talk about a 'sport mode' or knocking it into Manual when trouble shooting issues.
These are all things mentioned when readinto into SD4's, but I know SD4's only came as auto.
So I am hoping someone will tell me what the M/S position is for, and do I have a sport or manual mode?

Hi Jamie - welcome to the forum…!
What Freelander do you have? SD4 F2 assuming, which I think has command shift?

Anyway, the m/s next to an auto selector (the F1 has a similar thing) basically is ‘manual’ or ‘sport’. In so much as you can leave it there and the car will hold gears longer, through more of the rev range (so accelerate quicker), or from there you can nudge the selector forward or backward and force the auto to change up or down (within certain parameters… for instance in won’t shouldn’t let you drop to 1st from 60 mph!
In reality, the auto box will do all this for you in normal mode, and you can kick-down if you want to get higher revs/quick acceleration.

As above. Moving the lever into M/S puts the box in sport automatic, or M for manual override, which allows you to go up and down the gears by morning the lever forwards or backwards. It's pretty pointless, unless you're towing and want to hold a low gear for a particular reason, or you just happen to be driving at a particular speed where the box is hunting between gears, when you can get away with a higher gear in manual mode.
