I've got one exactly like that in my Freelander 1 with the Land rover logo in the middle of it.
Its located in the centre of the dash in front of the clock.
Mine has got velcro and two rubber locating nodules under it.

Is yours pre or post facelift? (2003 ish) as this dont look like it should sit there in mine?
Well it could but it would not look as if designed to.
Then again on a Freelander what does look as if thoughtfully designed?

Yep.
Its deffo an armrest tray that wont fit my solid armrest. It is useful in the drivers door pocket to keep a few coins though.

How odd that someone would leave such a thing in the car
Reckon they had the proper armrest with tray and swapped the armrest for solid one for some reason.
Probably because with a tray everything presumably falls out when you raise the armrest.
