firing order 4.6

Little

with this
gorra change the coil packs i know the pot numbers and i know the coil packs are numbered 1-8 left to right but if firing order is 18436572 on the coil packs from left to right why is the coil pack numbered like it is? am i right in thinkin coil # 1 goes to pot 1 coil # 2 goes to pot 8 etc?

If you want it to misfire it does. Think you will find #1 goes to #1 cylinder #2 to #2 cylinder etc. From memory, looking from front of engine to back #1 cylinder is the left hand front one. So in that bank you have 1-3-5-7 opposite side is 2-4-6-8. I think i am correct in saying that the coil pack # corresponds to the cylinder it feeds. The firing order is sorted out by the ECU. Never delt with the newer CD ignition V8s only the older dizzy types.

If that the way it is obviously that explains why the coil pack is numbered 1-8 but wtf would l/r confuse the issue with a firing order?

Goes back to days of the distributor when plug leads were put on in sequence starting at #1, next lead in direction of rotation would be #8 then #4 and so on you needed to know the firing order. The packs are numbered 1-8 so #1 goes to #1, #2 to #2 and so on. Firing order is sorted by ECU it fires #1 pack then #8 pack then #4 pack and so on. So you are correct there is no longer any need to know the firing order.

Just changed the coil packs and its fooking great, Not quite A1 but i reckon with new plugs n leads and cats tomorrow it will be

carl said when he looked at it the leads that burnt out was no 3 and no5 and they was in opersite pots we will have to check with him

Muppet, just to let ya know carl let me down friday, So I done the coil packs this morning and changed the one lead that was fecked.....fetched the cats from carspares, new plugs new leads... started to change the plugs n realised id left the leads on the counter :doh: All that while ur sat on ya arse

Coil pack 6 + 5 had signs of burnt outness

with 3 lead split

, Its running way way better than it was but hopefully with the new leads 2mora it'll be 100% the old leads are suspect

Firing Order for a 4.0 litre petrol v8, mine is a 2001 model
when you look at engine from the front, the plug nearest to you on the right side of engine is 1, then 3, then 5, then 7
on left side,nearest plug to you is 2, then 4, 6, and 8.
on the two coil packs - they are in the order below

2 3 4 7 LOWER ROW NEAREST GROUND

8 5 6 1 TOP ROW NEAREST BONNET

ENGINE

Hope that makes sense, I couldnt find anywhere that explained it simply enough for me so hope it helps someone !
