On a plastic valve, i don't think that would end well.

You buy Acetone in Nylon bottles there is a bloody big difference between that and what plastic car parts are made from.

Yep, Acetone is instant death to many plastic compounds

I'd be REAL careful putting acetone anywhere near anything plastic or with o-rings! Taht's sledgehammer stuff - like Easystart. Last chance saloon stuff. And yes, I have a bottle under the bench ... been there 10 years now and still not finished.

try a bit of paraffin mate you can get it from garden shops thats where i am getting mine from when i get round to cleaning a few bit out
