Hi All

I have floated around this forum for a while but now that I have purchased my first Landy I have decided to join as this forum seems to be a font of all knowledge.

I originally purchased my first ever landrover a few weeks ago, it was a Freelander 1 v6 with only 76000 on the clock and a full service history. I thought that I had got a fantastic deal however I unfortunately never got to take home my new pride and joy because I got a call from the garage the other week and was told that it had died and gone to heaven.

So my search for a new toy began. I had always wanted to own a Defender but I had never found one that was reasonable nick for the price I wanted to pay. One of my friends had owned one for some time and swore by them so I thought i would try to find one.

After much searching online and days off searching around car dealers and private owners I think (hope) I have finally got a good one. 1985 Defender 90 2.3 petrol

So my journey begins.........any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

enjoy it and steer clear of britpart unless a G part number

B reg? I might be making this up be it seems that the B reg ones are one of the best years for metal quality. They don't seem to rust as much as other years, and there almost appeared to be a cult following of the B reg 90's.

Nice one.

You may well be correct on that one. Mate if mine had a C plate 90, which only had it's first welding done on the chassis in 2010!! 24 years after it was built.
The other plus point is that on a B plate it is one of the earliest Defenders (well, ninety/90 as they were officially known) so could be worth something one day, same sd the series 1's are now.

Thanks for all your replies, and your advice "fanatic" if course which I will adhear to. Yes "biggeeeee" I suppose I should count myself lucky really regarding the freelander. Secretly I wanted a defender anyway.

It took me ages to find this 90 and I do intend to look after her as she is an old girl.

Its funny you mention about the body work, this landy is completly untouched and original. It was being sold for export by the dealer because it was origonal and aparently this type is sought after abroad. It took me a while to convince him to sell it to me.

I must have spent about two hours going over and under this one and only found minor corrosion so hopefully I will be able to treat it and then concentrate on overall preservation. I have no plans to make any alterations to her.

Thanks again all

Get some spanners and a good assortment of various other tools; learn to weld, MIG is easiest for DIY and be prepared to get filthy but most of all enjoy the satisfied feeling when you have fixed it yourself. Get out in the mud and the snow but until you've got the hang of it find someone else with a Landy or join a local 4x4 group. They're all over the place and invaluable for learning the ins and outs and by the way, welcome to the funny farm!
