engine

Hi what engine will my FL2 2.2 have in it.Some people tell me its a transit engine and others tell me its a citreon engine.The vehicle is 2007 plate.Thanks

Peugeot ford collaboration, same engine is in mondeo, but with different turbo and ecu

The engine pictured is the oil engine used in VERY early Freelanders, I understand it was first used as the auxiliary engine for the Ark, running on Whale Oil.

Later Freelander 1's had a quality BMW 2 litre diesel (TD4).

Powerful, fuel efficient and quiet. It's not as reliable as the engine pictured though. It has a few problems showing as it ages.

apparently they can do moon miles, like the M47 fitted to the facelift FL1 I have just ordered a complete belt kit for mine, with water pump, all the filters including fuel filter, even though I have been told and have the paper work to sat a service was undertaken October last year, I am going to start from scratch, only for my piece of mind.
Belts have another 60000 to go yet but by the year due in September, so ever 150000 or 10yrs which ever come first.

As will all diesel engines regular oil change is always best, as long as they do not have the fault the Ford transit had with the oil pump they should be good, but time will tell, my FL2 as full service history and apparently wanted for nothing,

i had a quick scan through the service book on the one i,m picking up this week and theres a lot of land rover works service stamps in there.Sohopefully itsgood for a few years.I just hope the mpg aint too bad some state 38 avg some state less than 30avg ???

If they are anything like the F1 diesels, the auto will have poor economy around town. Don't know if you can get a manual F2.

My FL2 is a manual speed

There's a 6 speed manual and 6 speed auto available in the diesel FL2. The straight 6 petrol is auto box only.
I'd buy the auto myself. I think the improvement in drive refinement is well worth the extra running costs. Also TR works better with the auto box option, making the overall package more complete.

Hi the one i pick up tomorrow is the auto HSE.You mention TR in your post.What is TR ??

I started work on the underside today rubbing down etc and checking it all over, I will soon make a thread of how my work goes on it,

TR is Terrain Response. The thing that makes a Land Rover better off road than the competition.

YES just googled it i see i have a lot to learn about the vehicle.I,m also confused about the gear stick as you can use it as a normal auto or you can shift it to the side and change manually.Can you shift it from auto to manual while the car is moving and switch it back to auto while moveing.Sorry for all the questions but i don,t want to break anything driving it home tomorrow.Thanks

Command shift is brilliant. You can move the stick from D to manual while driving if you like. Doing so puts the box into Sport mode. From there you can select gear + which is up to the next higher gear, or gear - which is down to the next lower gear.
You can't do anything that will cause damage, as the box ECU prevents it.
