Can a 100,000 mile TD5 cope with a good drubbing once in a while? I had to drive to Sheffield this evening and took most of the road flat out through the gears.
Afterwards l felt a bit bad, the 110 is running a mild remap and l was sat at home afterwards mentally pricing up cylinder heads/exhaust manifolds....

yes easily, td5s seem to like hard work, ancillaries not as much
 
It can do an engine good to give it a bit of heavy work to do, deglazes the bores and can also boil out any moisture you may have in your oil I(f it only ever does short journeys)
 
Do you think I've been working my 300 hard?

Any engine should be able to take having its arse ragged off it for miles and if it cant its obviously fooked and any owner would know that before thrashing it, 100k is nothing to any modern engine and by modern I mean anything under 30yrs old that still runs well.

Got 240k on a ford and when on the expressway with a clear road I will run it up to 98 for a mile or 2. does then good to get upto operating temps, It also clean out the exhaust of any soot from running cold cool temps/ short runs and it does the injectors some good also
 
My 200 tdi has 160K on it and I often give it a good blast on the motorway. That way I can see if anything is on its way out and needs doing. According to what I have seen on here, it could be due some new rings soon.
 
Sounds good then. My 110 is actually quite lively after Dynachip did their best with it, even though they had to turn down the remap twice due to too much smoke.

It's quite funny when you pull out to pass another vehicle in a Defender 110, and they accelerate, but you still easily get past, and you can almost see them thinking "how..."

These other vehicles you speak of, are they pulled by horses per chance.

It's more the element of surprise. People see a Defender in their rear view mirror, and think "that is not going to overtake"

When I see someone attempting that manoeuvre I bury the pedal to the floor. I don’t go any faster, but the black smokescreen created is useful for sneaking into the middle lane and holding everyone up at 55mph.
