Hi guys! Im pretty new to the forum and hoping to get my first landy! I'm after either a defender or disco with some off-roading gear already done. My question to you guys today is I have been offered a 1990 defender 90 2.5 200tdi pick up. It comes with GOOD off road tyres, winch, snorkel, CB, basically its perfect! Price is £2650. When asking about milage and when belts/clutch were last changed he said he didnt know milage  and apparently all "that stuff" was done last year by previous owner but no paperwork.....

Sounds bit iffy but im still VERY tempted! What do you guys think?

Also while im at it might as well ask, (as i have no idea on landys!!) what are these like on fuel? And how are they on comfort? (not too bothered on comfort just trying to give the missis some reassurance ;) )

Any reply is appreciated !
Cheers, Shep

possibly got disco engine in it , hows the chassis ? rear cross member etc etc , knock him down on price to allow you the cash to get the cambelt and other work done , i would take a wadge of cash see what happonds

Yes was gonna have a look round for rust (might refrain from the hammer use though! ha). Good point about checking the engine though, as wouldn't of thought to do that! And dont worry I'll knock him down every penny I can!! Cheers for the help guys!

Make sure it goes in to low box with out any trouble, switch from high to low a few times to be sure. Take something to have a poke around the chassis with unless its spick and span dont worry, but at the end of the day you dont want to be getting something thats going to fall apart 6 months down the line.

Yeah will do! Rust shouldnt be too much of an issue as long as it isn't THAT bad. Fortuantely I can weld (not pretty welding but its strong!) but yeh thats the last thing I need especially for the use off road....

HAHA well fortunately I have a second car (dolomite sprint which is another toy!) but hopefully getting a boring modern fuel economical jobby for any long trips or during off road repairs! :biggrin1:
