as far as i know when looking down the side of the vehicle from above no TREAD (ie the contact patch) must be visible past the bodywork. going by your pic id say no?

Probably not with a 255 section tyre. But will depend mostly on the offset of the rim and if you are running wheel spacers or not.

0 offset. No spacer currently. Need to see how the work for me.

You may not need arch extensions, but if you are using it on the road your speedo will be illegal, you have raised the intermediate and final drive gear ratios. When your speedo reads 30 MPH you will be doing 33.6, at indicated 60 MPH 67.1.

Speeding might be illegal, but having a speedo that isn't accurate isn't. And lets face it, chances of it being correct to begin with are slim, nil or not at all.

Afraid it is. Speedos before 2001 can be plus or minus 10% at an indicated 30 MPH. On vehicles made in or after that year the true speed can less than indicated but not more. Why do you think speed cameras are set at speed limit plus 10%, plus 2 MPH before they go off?

Maybe for type approval. But where would this be tested on a used car? Can you cite any cases where someone has been prosecuted for this? Personally I think the op has nothing to worry about.

I take it you have never heard of construction and use regulations? Whilst speedometer operation is not tested for MOT purposes and in all the cars i have serviced over the last fifty years i have never seen a check for speedometer function requirement mentioned. IT IS illegal to drive a vehicle on the road without a working speedo. The onus is on the owner of the vehicle to maintain any speed measuring device in proper working order. If it registers incorrectly it is not in proper working order. Personally i don't give a shit if he gets done for speeding. Just pointing out what he has done by fitting the wrong tyres.
