Hi, new owner here, just aquired a nice clean 53 plate discovery 2 TD5

First post of many I suppose :)
I have noticed when I start the vehicle, the heated windscreen and heated rear window are on, and I have to manually turn them off. I also notice that when I press the demist button on the heater, it automatically turns them both on again (as expected) but if I de-select the demist they stay on. I guess they'll turn off after a set time ?
It's just that when I start the car without demist selected they still seem to default to on.

I'm sure I'm missing something here, read the manual and it doesn't seem clear ??

Thanks

Mat

HI and welcome
I assume you have the LCD switch panel and not the manual round knob panel for the heating and A/C
I believe its covered on page 71 of your owners handbook.
Think you have the demist button depressed, this fires up the blower and windscreens.

The screens will stay on after the button is pressed (you can press the switches and they will go off)
5 mins for the front and 10 for the rear or vice versa.
Shouldn't fire up if the demist function is off.

OK, thx for the reply. Yes I have the LCD panel controls.... I read the manual & I agree. I need to double check because on mine it works exactly like it reads, but for some reason when I start it up, even though it's not in demist (as I haven't pressed the button, and in any case it's a "soft" button.. so switching off the ignition clears it) I think the heated screens come on. I can switch them off manually though.
For the demist button, switching it on turns on the heated screens, but de-selecting it, or turning the heating on to manual doesn't turn the heated screens off immediately.... I guess that's correct ?

Thx

I'm not so sure its a soft switch as you say.
Seem to remember that its stays in whatever mode you choose until you tell it otherwise.
The screens once activated will stay on till the timer switches them off or you do manually override them

I'll check mine and report back

OK thx... I could be talking bo***$ks though, as I've only had it for two days, and I'm not actually using it yet, as I haven't swapped the insurance over from my MGF...
I have stockpiled all the fluids and filters etc ready for the weekend :)
